Chapter 16

3,458 words17 minutes read

“I don’t like smoking fake cigarettes. If you don’t open the shop, wouldn’t I have to quit? What’s the difference between that and taking my life?” Han Sanqian helped Mo Yang up.
Mo Yang then saw Chang Bin being subdued and, thinking of his wife, immediately became anxious. He walked tremblingly to Chang Bin’s side and asked, “Chang Bin, where’s my wife?”
Chang Bin, unable to move as he was held by Lin Yong, glared fiercely at Han Sanqian and said, “Dead. The moment I captured you, I had someone kill her.”
Mo Yang went mad. He grabbed Chang Bin by the hair and repeatedly smashed his own head against Chang Bin’s, shouting, “Where is she? Where is she?”
“Calm down first,” Han Sanqian grabbed Mo Yang’s hand and kicked Chang Bin away. He didn’t care about Chang Bin’s life or death, but Mo Yang was already seriously injured, and if he continued to hit himself like this, he wouldn’t feel any better.
Chang Bin squatted on the ground, clutching his stomach, and gritted his teeth as he said to Han Sanqian, “I’m going to kill you. I won’t leave a single person from the Su Family alive.”
Mo Yang took a deep breath and said to Han Sanqian, “Let me go.”
Looking at Mo Yang’s deranged eyes, Han Sanqian released him. If it were him, and Su Yingxia were captured, he wouldn’t be able to remain calm either.
“Chang Bin, I’ll ask you one last time, where is my wife?” Mo Yang’s voice was ice-cold, his bloodied face like a demon’s.
Chang Bin still acted as if he didn’t know any better, because in his mind, neither Mo Yang nor Han Sanqian would dare to do anything to him.
“Didn’t I make myself clear? Dead. From the moment you were captured, she was already dead,” Chang Bin said.
Mo Yang didn’t go mad like before, but instead became eerily calm. However, Han Sanqian could feel that Mo Yang was completely enveloped in killing intent.
“Call your subordinates. Tell them to come, as many as you have,” Han Sanqian instructed Lin Yong. If Mo Yang were to kill Chang Bin here, it would be impossible for just the few of them to escape unscathed.
Lin Yong nervously took out his phone and quickly dialed his subordinates’ numbers.
“Since she’s dead, then you go accompany her on the road to the Yellow Springs. She’s afraid of the dark,” Mo Yang said.
Chang Bin looked at Mo Yang disdainfully. “You dare to kill me? Do you know how big of a chain reaction my death will cause? Not only you, but all three of you will be buried with me, and the Su Family too.”
Lin Yong secretly wiped a bead of sweat from his forehead. He knew Chang Bin wasn’t bragging. Unlike Cheng Gang, who also had connections, Chang Bin’s connections were far superior. Chang Bin’s underground casino had astonishing annual revenue, and he had bribed countless people. Otherwise, with so many establishments, he would have been in prison long ago. If something happened to him, it would affect too many people’s interests. Would they still have a place to stay in Yun Cheng?
“Mo Yang, calm down. His death won’t do us any good,” Lin Yong persuaded Mo Yang.
“Lin Yong still knows what he’s doing. Mo Yang, do you have the guts, you ***?” Chang Bin looked at Mo Yang disdainfully.
“Mo Yang, you can do whatever you want, no matter how strong his background is,” Han Sanqian said.
Lin Yong was startled. Han Sanqian didn’t take Chang Bin seriously at all. Wouldn’t his previous words make him seem timid and fearful?
“Pfft.” Chang Bin mocked Han Sanqian. “You good-for-nothing sure can brag. Do you know who people behind me are?”
Han Sanqian didn’t even look at Chang Bin and said to Mo Yang, “I’ll wait for you outside.”
As he left, Han Sanqian called Lin Yong along.
Outside the office, Chang Bin’s subordinates had already gathered. Seeing Han Sanqian and Lin Yong walk out, none of them dared to make the first move.
“You’ve disappointed me.” Han Sanqian, completely unfazed by the dangerous situation, had a calm and indifferent expression that wasn’t feigned.
Lin Yong lowered his head. He had indeed shown cowardice in this matter, but in his opinion, Chang Bin was someone to be feared, and the people behind him were even more formidable. A single move could affect the entire situation. Who could guess what kind of turmoil Chang Bin’s death would cause?
“Sanqian, are you truly fearless?” Lin Yong asked in disbelief, not understanding on what basis Han Sanqian could be so reckless.
Han Sanqian smiled faintly. How could just Yun Cheng make him hesitant?
Mo Yang hadn’t come out of the office yet, but Lin Yong’s men had arrived. All the gamblers were driven out, and more than two hundred of Lin Yong’s subordinates filled the casino.
Only then did Lin Yong regain some confidence. Regardless of what happened afterward, at least for now, they were safe.
After a full half hour, Mo Yang finally emerged from the office, covered in blood, his eyes vacant.
Han Sanqian knew that his wife had likely truly died at Chang Bin’s hands.
“Can you do me a favor?” Mo Yang asked in a hoarse voice.
“No problem.”
“I want to take her back to Pingyang Village. I need a car,” Mo Yang said.
The casino’s interrogation room was a torture chamber set up for cheaters. Mo Yang found his wife’s body inside.
As Mo Yang carried the corpse to the casino lobby, he suddenly stopped and muttered, “Yun Cheng, I’m back.”
At this moment, Mo Yang stood tall and straight, no longer the common vendor from the convenience store. He seemed to have returned to that imperious overlord of five years ago.
Han Sanqian personally drove Mo Yang back to Pingyang Village. Without cremation, Han Sanqian and Mo Yang dug a pit together in the backyard of Mo Yang’s old house.
A simple gravestone marked the sorrow of Mo Yang’s life.
Squatting before the grave, a faint smile played on Mo Yang’s lips.
“Eight years ago, she said she wanted to see how beautiful Yun Cheng was. I spent three years reaching the pinnacle of Yun Cheng. Five years ago, she said she was tired and wanted to rest. I set aside everything and stayed with her for a peaceful life.”
If you desire the clouds to rise, I will make them rise for you. If you wish the tide to recede, I will calm the great waves! This was Mo Yang’s magnanimity, willing to experience the ebb and flow of tides for his beloved.
“Damn, you’re really willful,” even Han Sanqian, with his composure, couldn’t help but curse after hearing Mo Yang’s words.
Mo Yang gave a bitter smile and looked at Han Sanqian, saying, “If it were you, would you do the same?”
This question made Han Sanqian ponder, but he quickly shook his head and said, “No. Only by being strong enough can I protect her.”
“If only I had figured this out sooner, things might not have reached this point,” Mo Yang said, his hands forming claws and sinking into the mud.
Chapter Thirty-Three: An Eccentric Family of Three
At home.
After Han Sanqian left, Su Yingxia became somewhat restless. As time passed, lying in bed, Su Yingxia couldn’t sleep at all.
Holding her phone, she watched the seconds tick by, and soon it was eleven o’clock. Usually, Su Yingxia would have been asleep by this time, as she had to go for a morning run the next day. But tonight, she couldn’t close her eyes.
Only then did Su Yingxia realize that Han Sanqian had become an indispensable part of her life. Even though he just slept on the floor, he occupied such an important place in her heart.
Su Yingxia wanted to call Han Sanqian to ask when he would be home, but Han Sanqian had made it clear when he left that he had something to take care of. Su Yingxia didn’t want to disturb him.
She spent the whole night tossing and turning. Just as dawn broke, Su Yingxia heard the sound of the door opening and quickly closed her eyes, pretending to be asleep.
Han Sanqian hadn’t expected to be delayed so long last night. He tiptoed into the room and, seeing that Su Yingxia was still asleep, breathed a sigh of relief.
However, noticing Su Yingxia’s eyelashes trembling slightly and her eye bags notably heavier with dark circles under her eyes, Han Sanqian smiled wryly and said, “You didn’t sleep all night, did you?”
Hearing Han Sanqian’s words, Su Yingxia was startled. She didn’t want Han Sanqian to know about this and continued to feign sleep.
Han Sanqian knew she was pretending but didn't expose her. Lying on the makeshift bed, he said to himself, “A friend had something come up, so I was delayed.”
Su Yingxia couldn’t help but want to ask what had happened, but she was still pretending to sleep. If she spoke now, her cover would be blown.
“Some people are worth protecting with one’s life. He taught me a lesson. I won’t allow something like that to happen to me,” Han Sanqian said lightly. Mo Yang’s most foolish decision was to retire from the world. He mistakenly thought he could achieve a peaceful life, unaware that once you are in the Jianghu, you are no longer your own master.
Su Yingxia couldn’t hold back anymore. She pretended to be groggy, as if just waking up, and complained, “I was still sleeping, and you kept talking. Do you want me to kick you out of the room?”
Han Sanqian rested his head on his hands, looked at Su Yingxia on the bed, and said gently, “Take today off and rest at home.”
Su Yingxia felt a pang of guilt. Had he seen through her? How awkward!
“Why would I take time off for no reason? Besides, there’s an important meeting today. It won’t work without me. But we won’t do the morning run today,” Su Yingxia said.
Han Sanqian smiled and said no more. If he had truly exposed her, she might have had to sleep on the sofa for the next few days.
At eight o’clock, Han Sanqian woke up and made porridge. After letting it cool, he woke Su Yingxia, trying to let her sleep a little longer.
As Su Yingxia was eating breakfast, Jiang Lan came out of her room. She had intended to question Han Sanqian about buying the car last night, but the couple had a moment of passion, and she missed her chance.
“Yingxia, your uncle and his family are coming to Yun Cheng today. Have him pick them up at the station at three in the afternoon,” Jiang Lan said.
Su Yingxia looked at Jiang Lan helplessly. Han Sanqian wasn’t away, so why did she have to relay the message?
“Mom, what are you doing?” Su Yingxia asked.
Jiang Lan glanced at Han Sanqian, and anger flared up. “I won’t argue with you about the car. After all, it’s already happened. But if the old lady finds out, you’ll admit your mistake yourself and say you told Yingxia to buy it, and it has nothing to do with Yingxia, so the old lady doesn’t punish Yingxia.”
“No problem,” Han Sanqian replied.
After breakfast, Han Sanqian took Su Yingxia to the company. The convenience store opened as usual, but the customers coming and going were noticeably more numerous, and they didn’t look like ordinary people.
“What do you plan to do?” Han Sanqian asked Mo Yang.
“Chang Bin is dead. Someone has to clean up the mess he left behind,” Mo Yang said.
Han Sanqian nodded. It seemed Mo Yang had decided to re-enter the fray. This was a good thing, as Lin Yong lacked the ambition to achieve great things. Han Sanqian no longer considered Lin Yong someone to cultivate.
“If you need anything, just ask,” Han Sanqian said.
Mo Yang smiled. “Chang Bin is dead, and there’s been no reaction from Yun Cheng yet. The help you provided is enough. As for you, if you ever need my help, just ask.”
“I’ll remember that. A true man keeps his word,” Han Sanqian said with a smile.
Mo Yang lit a cigarette and offered one to Han Sanqian, then asked, “You’ve been lying low for three years. What are your plans?”
Han Sanqian waved his hand. “I still have a mission to complete. I have to go.”
Mo Yang smiled helplessly and muttered to himself, “The surprises you can bring me are probably not small.”
Han Sanqian ate a simple meal at a roadside stall for lunch. Driving an Audi and eating at a roadside stall attracted quite a few glances. After eating, he went to the station early.
For the past three years, he had returned to Jiang Lan’s maiden home every year, so he was very familiar with Su Yingxia’s uncle.
Jiang Fengguang. His name sounded impressive, but in reality, he was all talk and bragging. He constantly boasted about others’ achievements, a typical armchair hero. As for his son, Han Sanqian had no good impression of him. His name was Jiang Sheng, and he was not only sleazy but also had the same character as Jiang Fengguang. Besides bragging, he had no real skills. As for his wife, Liu Hua, she was a truly eccentric person, even more caustic than Jiang Lan. Han Sanqian remembered that the year before, when Jiang Sheng was dating someone and asked Liu Hua for money for a date, Liu Hua’s response, “Why should I spend my money?” completely overturned Han Sanqian’s perception of reality.
Watching Liu Hua meticulously coach Jiang Sheng on how to use excuses to get the woman to pay, Han Sanqian was utterly impressed by this family of three.
Of course, Jiang Sheng’s relationship ended in failure. And Liu Hua actually said that the woman didn’t know what was good for her.
At three o’clock, Jiang Fengguang’s family of three emerged from the station. Han Sanqian stepped forward to greet them.
Looking at Han Sanqian, Jiang Fengguang’s face fell. “Where’s Jiang Lan? Where’s Su Guoyao? Why didn’t they come themselves?”
Han Sanqian inwardly scoffed, *Are you royalty or something, requiring such a grand reception?*
“Mom and Dad are busy today, so they sent me to pick you up,” Han Sanqian said.
Jiang Fengguang snorted coldly. Liu Hua said sarcastically, “I heard Su Yingxia is a manager now. Her airs are indeed different. She just sends someone to pick us up. I see your sister doesn’t take you seriously anymore.”
“Han Sanqian, you didn’t walk here to pick us up, did you?” Jiang Sheng asked.
“I drove. Follow me,” Han Sanqian said, speechless. Where did this family of three get their sense of superiority from? They were poor as church mice, yet they put on airs.
Upon seeing the Audi, Jiang Sheng’s eyes lit up.
“You drove this car?” Jiang Sheng asked in surprise.
Jiang Fengguang and Liu Hua were also slightly taken aback. Su Yingxia had only been a manager for a short time, and she had already gotten a luxury car!
“Yes, get in,” Han Sanqian said.
Jiang Sheng was stunned for a moment, then walked directly to the driver’s side and said to Han Sanqian, “Give me the keys. I’ll drive. What right do you have to drive such a good car?”
“Do you know the way?” Han Sanqian asked helplessly.
“What’s it to you? Hurry up and give me the keys. Stop wasting time,” Jiang Sheng said coldly, displeased.
“Is this car something you can decide on? It’s not like you bought it. What’s wrong with my son driving it?” Jiang Fengguang said.
“Exactly. You’re just benefiting from it. If not for picking us up, would Jiang Lan have let you drive such a good car?” Liu Hua chimed in.
Han Sanqian could only toss the keys to Jiang Sheng.
Jiang Sheng excitedly got into the car. He didn’t start it but took out his phone and took a picture, posting it on his social media.
Jiang Fengguang and Liu Hua got into the car, marveling and constantly exclaiming how different it felt to sit in a luxury car.
The moment Jiang Sheng stepped on the accelerator, he felt as if he had reached the peak of his life, floating with excitement.
They arrived safely at the residential area. However, while parking, Jiang Sheng, unfamiliar with the car’s dimensions, scraped it against a flowerbed, leaving a large dent on the front right fender.
As the family of three got out of the car, their faces turned pale. This car was not cheap. If it needed repairs, who knew how much it would cost!
Liu Hua glanced at Jiang Sheng and said through gritted teeth, “How could you be so careless?”
Chapter Thirty-Four: Lying Through One’s Teeth
“Mom, what do we do now? Are they going to make me pay?” Jiang Sheng asked nervously.
Liu Hua looked at Han Sanqian. She couldn’t let her son take the blame. Han Sanqian was looked down upon by the Su family anyway, so letting him take the blame would be fine.
“I have to go pick up Yingxia from work. You guys go upstairs yourselves,” Han Sanqian said at this moment.
Jiang Fengguang’s face turned angry. Was this how guests were supposed to be treated? Just as he was about to speak, Liu Hua beat him to it. “Hurry up and go, don’t be late.”
Jiang Fengguang looked at Liu Hua suspiciously. Why had she suddenly changed her tune? When guests arrive, wouldn’t they naturally be led upstairs?
“Liu Hua, what are you doing? Why aren’t you letting this good-for-nothing lead us upstairs?” Jiang Fengguang asked Liu Hua after Han Sanqian had driven away.
“If he doesn’t leave, how can we pin the blame on him?” Liu Hua said with a smile. “When we go up, you guys don’t say anything. Let me do the talking.”
The family of three went upstairs. Jiang Lan was already waiting at home.
“Brother, Sister-in-law, you’re finally here.” Jiang Lan warmly welcomed the trio inside.
Liu Hua sighed and deliberately put on a wronged expression. “Jiang Lan, tell me, how could you let Han Sanqian drive such a good car?”
“Sister-in-law, what’s wrong?” Jiang Lan asked, confused.
“He hit the car and made a big dent. It’s going to cost a lot to fix it. Isn’t that just a waste of money?” Liu Hua said.
Hearing this, Jiang Lan’s face instantly changed. Han Sanqian had crashed the car! It was a new car, and he didn’t even know to be careful.
“Yeah, Auntie Lan, how could you let him drive such a nice car? I think he’s only fit for riding a scooter,” Jiang Sheng said righteously, showing no shame whatsoever.
“Jiang Lan, it’s not that I’m trying to lecture you, brother, but you know what kind of person Han Sanqian is. Why do you give him face?”
The family of three on parade was so bizarre it was astonishing.
Jiang Lan took a deep breath. She didn’t suspect any trickery and said coldly, “I’ll deal with him when he gets back. He’s not driving my car again.”
Han Sanqian was unaware of what had happened at home. When he arrived at the company, the convenience store had already closed. Mo Yang had likely gone to handle something, so he leaned against the car idly.
Not long after, a few ruffian-looking men deliberately walked up to Han Sanqian.
“Buddy, we heard you’re that good-for-nothing from the Su family. You’ve embarrassed us men enough.”
“How does it feel to be a kept man? Weren’t you a eunuch in your past life?”
“Su Yingxia, such a beautiful woman, you managed to get her. Tell us, have you touched her? Was it awesome?”
Han Sanqian glanced at the red Ferrari parked at the end of the street and said faintly, “Go tell him to stop looking for trouble. My patience is limited.”
“Heh. Big talk, huh? Guys, beat him up.”
The three rolled up their sleeves and attacked. Han Sanqian smiled disdainfully. *You think bringing a few weaklings like this can teach me a lesson? You’re underestimating me.*
The thugs attacked ferociously, but soon they were all on the ground, while Han Sanqian remained as calm as if nothing had happened.
“Get lost. If there’s a next time, it won’t be this simple,” Han Sanqian said.
The three were shocked that Han Sanqian could fight so well. Their eyes showed fear, and they scurried away in a single line.
