The morning breeze carried a burst of pleasant laughter. The fat cat basking in the sun on the windowsill twitched its ears, looked up at the little girl not far away chasing a white "free-range chicken," lazily opened its mouth, flicked its whiskers with a paw, and prepared to resume its afternoon nap. Before Tom the fat cat could even close its eyes, the little girl accidentally tumbled onto the lawn and burst into a wail. Moving with a flexibility unbefitting its bulky frame, Tom leaped off the windowsill, trotted over to little Alice, nudged the little girl with its head, and looked up helplessly at the young figure walking over.
