Albert never felt that Katrina needed his help, nor did he think she would accept his good intentions. Having known her for over a year, he considered himself to reasonably understand Katrina's personality. Both McDougal sisters belonged to a rather stubborn type, and Isobel was probably well aware of this. Her earlier remark was likely just said offhand, with no expectation that Albert could actually be of much help. Albert hadn't paid much attention to the matter either; he had far too many busy tasks on his plate to spare any thought for Katrina.
