Many people were speculating about how Albert had miraculously added a hundred points to Gryffindor House out of nowhere, rocketing the previously last-place Gryffindor all the way to first, and pushing Slytherin House—whom everyone disliked—down to second.
Slytherin House was deeply unpopular. Their various obnoxious antics made students from the other houses detest them, and nobody wanted to see them win the House Cup.
