Yuling stepped out of the imperial sedan chair, dodging the dark blue oiled-paper umbrella raised high by a palace maid. Taking a few strides forward, she let the pattering, icy raindrops fall onto her body, dampening her light clothing and cheeks, and strode briskly and decisively into Fu'an Palace.
Upon entering the hall, she knelt and kowtowed before the sovereign.
