I don't know how much time had passed before the torrential rain finally stopped. The dark clouds dispersed, and the sky suddenly cleared. Warm sunlight broke through the gaps in the shredded white clouds, scattering in sparse patches across the earth. After the rain, crystal-clear dewdrops fell from the dark green wutong leaves, and plump, translucent pearls dropped from time to time from the eaves, occasionally splashing against the garments and cheeks of passing palace maids and guards.
