The moonlight was serene and ethereal, its flawless white glow resting like a thin layer of butterfly wings gently upon the railings of the Lake Heart Pavilion. A sudden chilly night breeze swept up, stirring the snow-white, gossamer silk curtains so that they fluttered helplessly in midair. Yet even the coldest moonlight could not compare to the desolation freezing the heart of the man who drank to excess in the pavilion this night.
