Chapter 11

Jun Chen followed Liu Yaoyao to the top floor outside the president's office, where a secretary intercepted them. "President Liu, President Shen is currently meeting with guests from the government. If you don't have anything urgent, could you please wait outside for a moment?"
Liu Yaoyao smiled. "In that case, Young Master Jun, please condescend to wait outside for a moment. I have matters to attend to, so I'll take my leave."
Jun Chen nodded. "Alright, thank you!"
With only a door between them, no matter how good the soundproofing was, a martial arts master like Jun Chen could hear the conversation inside clearly. Upon hearing that his wife might be in danger, Jun Chen brushed past the secretary's attempts to stop him and pushed the door open directly.
Inside, Wenren Mo immediately leaped to his feet. Along with Shen Liuli, the four of them—Wenren Mo, Wu Man, and Wu Lei—instantly fixed their gazes on the doorway. What they were discussing at that moment concerned state secrets and could not be taken lightly in the slightest.
The secretary followed them in and apologized first. "I'm sorry, President Shen. This gentleman insisted on coming in, and I couldn't stop him."
Shen Liuli collected herself, stood up, and said, "It's fine. You can go back to work."
The secretary exited the office, pulling the door shut behind her.
Shen Liuli wore a stern expression as she frowned and asked, "Why are you here?"
Jun Chen chuckled. "Aren't I worried about you and the baby in your belly? So I thought I'd come take a look. The moment I arrived at your office door, I heard that you were in danger, so I couldn't help but rush in."
Shen Liuli asked, "Did you hear our entire conversation?"
Jun Chen replied, "Not the whole thing, just the part right before where it was said you were in danger."
Shen Liuli remained skeptical. She smiled and offered an apology to Wenren Mo and the others. "I'm sorry, Team Leader Wenren. He's my husband, Jun Chen!"
"President Shen, did you say Jun... Young Master Jun is your husband?" Wenren Mo asked with a trembling voice.
Wenren Mo's unusual reaction puzzled Shen Liuli. She could understand him recognizing Jun Chen; she had heard Liu Yaoyao mention before that as the crown prince of the Jun Family and the top young master of Kyoto, his reputation and status spoke for themselves—wasn't it normal for others to know him? But Wenren Mo's overreaction was a bit baffling.
Not only Shen Liuli, but Wu Man and Wu Lei also exchanged blank stares.
Shen Liuli nodded. "Yes! Is there a problem, Team Leader Wenren?"
Wenren Mo shook his head vigorously. "No problem."
"Uh..."
Wenren Mo was momentarily at a loss for words, unsure of what to say. He looked at Jun Chen, wanting to speak but holding back.
To think that Shen Liuli was actually the eldest grandson's wife of the Jun Family! If that was the case, the plan he had previously devised concerning Shen Liuli would have to be shelved. If Shen Liuli suffered even the slightest mishap, not to mention an Earth Pavilion operative like him, the entire Yanhuang Pavilion would be in deep trouble. If he submitted that plan, the relevant authorities would likely summon him for a talk almost immediately.
At that thought, cold sweat broke out all over Wenren Mo!
Jun Chen asked, "Are you done talking? If you aren't finished, I can step outside and come back in when you're done."
Shen Liuli looked at Wenren Mo, and Jun Chen did the same.
Under immense pressure, Wenren Mo hurriedly said, "We're done."
Did he dare continue chatting? If they kept talking, the conversation would inevitably drift to his own plan, and once his plan was out in the open, he probably wouldn't make it out of this room today.
Jun Chen asked again, "Anything else?"
Wenren Mo forced a smile. "Nothing else. President Shen, Young Master Jun, I'll take my leave."
Shen Liuli nodded with a smile. "Take care, Team Leader Wenren."
Wu Man and Wu Lei were at a loss—should they leave or stay? They called out to Wenren Mo, "Team Leader, the two of us..."
Wenren Mo stared at them and said in a deep voice, "Let's go! With Young Master Jun here, does President Shen need the two of you to protect her?"
After the three of them left, Shen Liuli pressed Jun Chen again. "Did you really not hear anything from our conversation just now?"
Jun Chen answered with a straight face, "I really didn't hear a thing."
Shen Liuli believed him. "That's good."
Jun Chen kept his expression completely neutral while inwardly scoffing. Wasn't it just the research and development of nanomaterials for the latest generation of fighter jets? Was there any state secret he didn't already know? What a joke!
Shen Liuli said, "Have a seat for a bit. I still have some work to process."
Would Jun Chen dare say no?
He sat on the sofa and quietly took out his phone to start a peak match.
Wu Man and Wu Lei were veterans of Yanhuang Pavilion; they knew perfectly well what should and shouldn't be asked, and what should and shouldn't be known. Following Wenren Mo out of Shengxin Group, the two of them walked in complete silence, showing absolute tacit understanding.
As he walked, Wenren Mo suddenly stopped and said, "Wu Man, Wu Lei, the two of you go and help Gao Feng and Ding Wei protect Chief Engineer Yang. Then spread the word: claim that anyone with the identity verification of either Chief Engineer Yang or President Shen can access the laboratory database."
Wenren Mo wanted to use a borrowed knife to kill! Originally, he had intended to use Shen Liuli as bait, setting up an inescapable net to make Japanese spies walk right into the trap. But upon learning that Shen Liuli was the eldest grandson's wife of the Jun Family and was also pregnant, he no longer dared to put her in a dangerous situation under any circumstances.
Yet, on second thought, with Jun Chen personally guarding Shen Liuli, wasn't that far safer than all the operatives of the Earth Pavilion combined?
When all was said and done, whether this borrowed knife could be used successfully still depended on the other party's willingness.
By the time Shen Liuli finished her work, Jun Chen had just wrapped up a peak match.
On the way home, Shen Liuli asked casually, "Are you good at fighting?"
As a top wealthy family in Modu, the Shen Family was not composed of martial artists themselves, but they did employ them—the traditional guards of prominent clans since ancient times.
Jun Chen smiled. "I suppose I'm passable. A bit better than the two guys Wenren Mo found for you."
Shen Liuli responded with an "oh" and didn't ask further; she simply couldn't muster any interest in such matters.
Upon returning to Maple Forest Residence, they found a visitor at home: Shen Liuli's cousin, Lin Shiyu, who was still a college student at Modu University.
"Cousin! Cousin-in-law!"
Lin Shiyu's face was beaming with enthusiasm; she was utterly captivated by the domineering presence Jun Chen had displayed at the wedding.
Shen Liuli introduced them. "My cousin, Lin Shiyu."
Jun Chen smiled. "Hello, Shiyu."
Lin Shiyu beamed. "Hello, brother-in-law!"
Dropping the "cousin" prefix, she went straight to calling him brother-in-law, thinking it sounded much more intimate.
After Shen Liuli went upstairs, Lin Shiyu sneaked over to Jun Chen's side and said with a grin, "Brother-in-law, I have a favor to ask."
Jun Chen nodded with a smile. "Go ahead."
Carefully pulling a pink envelope from her pants pocket, Lin Shiyu said, "Brother-in-law, can you help me deliver a letter?"
Jun Chen took the envelope and read the inscription: *To be opened by Meng Liang.*
Narrowing his eyes, Jun Chen smiled. "A love letter?"
Shyly, Lin Shiyu nodded.
Curious, Jun Chen asked, "Why ask me? Why didn't you have your cousin deliver it?"
Lin Shiyu pouted. "My cousin wouldn't care about this kind of stuff for me."
It was precisely because she had witnessed Meng Liang's deferential attitude toward Jun Chen at the wedding that she had decided to leverage his influence.
