It really was time for some renovations. Looking around at his dilapidated room, Chen Feng felt his resolve to renovate grow even stronger. Although the place hadn't quite reached the point of being completely bare, it was still a far cry from the diverse design styles he had known in the future. The floor was made of plain gray bricks that gathered a layer of dust every day if left unswept. The mottled walls had long since exposed the raw brick underneath, and the windows weren't just drafty—they were practically transparent to anyone looking in. On top of that, the meager amount of furniture provided zero comfort. The room wasn't small; the two chambers combined for a total of sixty or seventy square meters, which was plenty for one person. The problem was the layout—it was incredibly illogical. Plus, at this time, everyone had to use the public latrines outside. In the heat of midsummer, the stench was truly beyond words. While winter was better in that regard, the bone-chilling cold meant that one visit could practically freeze your rear end off.
