In truth, Devereux did not genuinely expect to get a definitive answer by asking this question. What he cared about more was Professor McGonagall's reaction to it—especially her views on the field of Microscopic Structural Transfiguration. It seemed as though the world practically ignored the microscopic structure altogether. The entire magical world appeared to be at a remarkably stagnant stage when it came to researching microscopic structures; the most recent research findings were actually from seven years ago. For a field of science, this was a mind-boggling standstill.
