The Triwizard Tournament differed somewhat from ordinary competitions. It did not use a points system or an elimination format, but operated on its own unique mechanism. Although points were awarded and rankings generated during the course of the Triwizard Tournament, these did not directly determine the final champion. The reason was very simple. Since it was not a points-based competition, the number of points accumulated would not directly win you the championship. The points merely served to establish rankings to determine the starting order for the final trial.
