Chapter 7

Ever since he inherited this wand shop, Ollivander had received hundreds and thousands of young wizards. All sorts of things had happened when these young wizards tried out wands—accidents like a magical surge blowing up his shop, or a wand-waving sparking flames that set the place on fire, were regular occurrences.
However, no matter what happened, a young wizard waving a wand would always produce at least some kind of reaction, even if it was just whipping up a gentle breeze or making a sound. You could say that there was bound to be some movement of some sort.
Yet right now, after Ye Feng waved his wand, absolutely nothing happened. It was as if the person holding the wand wasn't a young wizard at all, but a Muggle completely devoid of magic.
Still, as a qualified wandmaker, he would not easily doubt a young wizard who had come to buy a wand. He merely assumed that the wand he had chosen did not suit the young wizard in front of him. After all, this young wizard was an Easterner, and since Easterners had different constitutions, it was understandable that he might be a little special.
Clinging to this thought, Ollivander handed Ye Feng another wand, but regretfully, the situation remained unchanged.
Seeing this, Ollivander instantly grew furious. As a wandmaker with a wealth of experience, he absolutely would not allow a young wizard to enter his shop and leave empty-handed.
Thus, refusing to accept this, Ollivander handed him three or four more wands in succession for Ye Feng to try. But what made Ollivander almost doubt reality was that even though he had racked his brains and tried his utmost to pick wands he believed were suited for Ye Feng, the result remained the same. The wand in Ye Feng's hand still did not show the slightest bit of reaction.
Just as Ollivander was beginning to doubt his life's work and even wondering if Hogwarts had made a terrible mistake—wondering if Ye Feng perhaps wasn't a young wizard at all—Ye Feng finally figured out the reason.
A wand, when it came down to it, was merely a tool that helped wizards channel the power within their bodies, allowing them to better control their internal magic to cast spells. This was especially true for young wizards; because they had not yet learned magic and had no idea how to control the power inside them, they were in even greater need of a suitable wand to guide it and prevent magical turbulence.
As for Ye Feng, he had been cultivating immortality for ten full years. To put it bluntly, when it came to controlling the power within his body, even if Dumbledore himself were here, he certainly wouldn't match him. In other words, the meager guiding force of a wand was utterly incapable of moving the power inside Ye Feng, which was why this situation had occurred.
Realizing this, Ye Feng did not take the wand Ollivander was holding out. Instead, he closed his eyes and released his control over the immortal power within his body, letting it flow of its own accord.
*Whoosh, whoosh, whoosh…*
The moment Ye Feng released his control over his internal power, every single wand in the entire shop began to leap and tremble wildly. This left Ollivander struck dumb with astonishment, for he could feel the wands' joy, anticipation, and… terror. He had never encountered such a thing before.
At the same time, Ye Feng, having relaxed his control, cast his Divine Sense out just a fraction. To his disappointment, none of these wands gave him a feeling of familiarity. However, while he didn't find any kindred wands, Ye Feng did notice that one of them was remarkably interesting. Opening his eyes, Ye Feng reached out a hand toward the spot where that wand lay.
*Swoosh!*
Accompanied by the sound of rushing wind, a wand shot through the air like a bolt of lightning and landed right in Ye Feng's palm. At that exact moment, Ye Feng reined in his aura, and the surrounding tremors instantly subsided.
"This one'll do. Boss, how much?"
"S-Seven Galleons."
After paying, Ye Feng left the little shop with Cho Chang amidst Ollivander's dazed gaze. Once he had his wand, Ye Feng couldn't wait to go back and try out how to cast spells. After all, immortal power and magic were ultimately somewhat different; he might need to slightly 'modify' the 'incantations' he used for casting spells.
Originally, Ye Feng had intended to take Cho Chang to buy a few things, seeing as her family wasn't particularly well-off, but Cho Chang refused. Although her family wasn't exactly wealthy, they didn't lack anything when it came to food, clothing, shelter, or travel.
Yet despite Cho Chang's refusal, Ye Feng still dragged her along and bought quite a few things—such as some materials that caught his eye, small trinkets Cho Chang liked, and snacks. Only after spending over a thousand Galleons did they walk contentedly toward the exit.
When they entered, they had to find the mechanism according to an incantation to open the entrance to Diagon Alley, but leaving didn't require that. So Ye Feng and Cho Chang strolled easily toward the exit. But the moment the passageway opened, Ye Feng stepped forward directly, blocking Cho Chang with his body and raising his right hand in front of her.
The second Ye Feng shielded Cho Chang, a white beam of light struck him. To Ye Feng's surprise, however, the light caused no harm whatsoever. At the same time, a massive cheer erupted from the other side of the passageway.
"It worked! We finally broke the illu—huh?"
As the passageway slowly parted to reveal the figures of Ye Feng and Cho Chang, the cheering on the other side abruptly cut off. This bizarre scene instantly made both Ye Feng and Cho Chang tense up, giving them the urge to turn right around and run back in.
After waiting a moment, however, Ye Feng realized these people bore no ill intent, and it also dawned on him what was going on. The magic that had just hit him wasn't an attack at all; rather, it felt like a spell used to repair things or dispel illusions. It was right then that Ye Feng finally remembered what he had done earlier.
Realizing what might have happened, Ye Feng nonchalantly reached out to take Cho Chang's small hand, pulling her along as he walked briskly toward the outside. As they moved, he flashed a sweet, sunny smile and called out, "Uncle, Aunty, what are you all doing? Are you fixing this wall?"
"It's true this wall was so rundown it really needed fixing. To get into Diagon Alley earlier, we actually had to climb up the wall and poke the brick next to that hole above just to open the entrance. If this thing collapsed and crushed someone, that wouldn't be good at all."
"But you don't have to worry. When I came in, I picked up a few bricks from outside and filled in the gap on the wall. Now, when people come into Diagon Alley, they won't need to hunt for that gap or count bricks anymore. Besides, doesn't it look a lot better without that hole?"
"My mother taught me ever since I was little that whenever you run into someone who needs help and it's within your power, you should lend a hand. Adding a few bricks is nothing—just a trivial act of kindness, not worth mentioning. You really don't need to thank me."
The Witches and Wizards: …
Ye Feng's words left every single wizard struck completely silent. Even Cho Chang stared at him in utter astonishment. Yet Ye Feng remained completely oblivious, looking brightly at the gathered wizards with a beaming smile as he continued, "Of course, if you really, truly want to thank me, I suppose I couldn't bear to turn down your kind intentions. Just give me one Sickle each as a small token of appreciation."
"Gulp~"
Hearing this, Cho Chang couldn't help swallowing hard. When she saw the expressions on the surrounding wizards starting to turn ugly while Ye Feng remained blissfully 'oblivious,' she instinctively grabbed his hand and bolted for the exit, dragging him out before many of the wizards even had time to react.
"What the hell! Stop him!"
"He's just a child—don't let him get away!"
"No Killing Curses! Stupefy will do! Once we catch him, we're going to string him up and beat him!"…
In an instant, the Leaky Cauldron became exceptionally lively. Amidst the din, a nervous and pretty little girl dragged along a boy who was still grinning mindlessly as they burst out of the Leaky Cauldron.
