The sudden eruption of violence left Roberson so terrified that the color drained from his face. He scrambled to the corner of the room, trembling uncontrollably. As a high-ranking bureaucrat accustomed to the comfort of an office, barking orders from on high, he had never witnessed such a savage and blood-soaked scene. Usually, he would have his underlings handle such matters on the ground while he directed operations from his desk. He was, to put it plainly, a man of letters who had never seen a true predator in the wild. His current reaction was entirely expected. Furthermore, since he didn’t carry a gun, he certainly wasn’t about to play the hero. Fear of death was, after all, a natural instinct. Brother Kei and his men also retreated to the periphery, clearly terrified of being sucked into the carnage.
