The stained-glass Pietà fractured the twilight into rhombus-shaped patches of light. Iblis sat on the second-to-last pew, the hem of her long black dress still stained with dried blood. She watched with mild interest as termites crawled inside the confessional box, their mandibles gnawing away at passages of the Book of Revelation in the oak wood.
"Sister, are you waiting for the priest?"
A little girl wearing a strawberry-print dress suddenly popped her head up from behind the back of the pew. The plastic angel hair-clip on one of her braids was missing half a wing. Iblis noticed that the scabbed wound on the girl's knee was glowing with a greenish tint, evidently scratched by some kind of magical plant.
