The girl stopped speaking and quietly watched Professor Snape. The man's silence felt like a form of torture. She wanted to say more, but once those tangled memories rushed back, they pressed against her throat like the sharp edge of a knife, suffocating and full of bitterness. In truth, when she had first awakened in the Chamber of Secrets, Dumbledore and Professor Snape had already overheard fragments of what she was talking about. Since her goal was to retrieve the Deathly Hallows and reclaim Voldemort's soul, there was no longer any need to be overly guarded against her. Yet Professor Snape had always harbored doubts about what had transpired between her and Merlin; back in the Chamber of Secrets, it had been completely impossible to hear what she and Salazar had been saying. Trial her and make her confess? Professor Snape looked at the girl. No matter how he looked at it, she did not seem like the type to willingly accept punishment for a wrong she hadn't committed.
