Camelia once again nimbly dodged a red beam of light. The spell struck the massive, invisible protective barrier surrounding the circular dueling platform, and the humming resonance of the collision forced students standing near the edge to instinctively cover their ears.
*This guy is truly detestable,* Camelia muttered inwardly, gritting her teeth. Who would have thought that a professor calling students up for a live demonstration would actually use non-verbal spells?
During the early part of their duel, Cassius had still been vocalizing his spells. But when he saw that Camelia was entirely capable of dodging and counterattacking, he had resorted to non-verbal magic halfway through. This left Camelia with virtually no window to react, and for an old monster of Cassius's caliber, spells were practically instantaneous. It was impossible to tell what kind of magic was coming based on the color alone, let alone mount a proper defense even if one managed to react.
