Chapter 282

The Elite Soldiers scaling the siege ladders put significant pressure on our defenses. The main issue was that among these small-unit commanders were Houtian Martial Artists. They could launch attacks from within five meters and leap two or three meters high. Some even carried specialized ropes, intending to secure them to the battlements and climb up. These ropes were custom-made and generally impossible to cut. Unfortunately for them, while the idea was sound, I had no trouble at all severing their lines. Once they were halfway up, my thousands of personal guards would draw their swords and slice the ropes, sending the attackers plummeting from the heights. While the fall itself rarely killed them, it terrified them half to death, and more than a few unlucky souls suffered broken bones. Being Houtian Martial Artists, they were agile and difficult to pick off with surprise attacks, but this certainly made them break into a cold sweat. They never expected our weapons could cut through their specialized rigging. Their "foolproof" siege plan was falling apart. Furthermore, we had an endless supply of stones. The enemy commander grew increasingly frustrated, wondering how we could possibly have so many. Eventually, they figured it out: they recovered samples from the battlefield and realized these stones were the same material as the bricks from our own walls—they were clearly being fired by us.
