I asked my master if I could cultivate several different supernatural abilities, as that would surely look more impressive.
My master replied irritably, "A person only has one Dantian. Your supernatural abilities must be nurtured within that Dantian. Even for those with heaven-sent talent, nurturing two or three abilities in a single Dantian is the absolute limit. Any more, and you’ll be spread too thin, making them useless. It’s just like the Spirit Qi in the world today—it can’t sustain a great cultivator. Your Spirit Qi is far too scarce; you couldn’t possibly sustain all those abilities. It would be much better to focus on nurturing just one. Strength is the only thing that truly matters."
He then reconsidered, noting that I was not an ordinary person, and added, "If you have an abundance of Spirit Qi, then it doesn't matter. Supernatural abilities depend primarily on the time spent nurturing them with Spirit Qi and your personal insight into them. This will also have a bearing on your future path to immortality."
