Chapter 66

1,961 words10 minutes read

At dawn the next day, as the first light touched the horizon, Chu Xuan and Miladi set off on their journey. Miladi wore simple black casual clothing. She wore no makeup, and her expression could not hide her exhaustion and sorrow. The heavy blow of losing a loved one had left her with no heart for dressing up; her face looked slightly haggard, and traces of dried tears lingered beneath her eyes, as if every moment of the night had been spent immersed in memories of the past and confusion about the future. When she first arrived in Modu, Miladi had been filled with passion and an unyielding will, swearing to carve out a world of her own in this bustling place to save the Mi Family from the storm of crisis. However, things in this world are unpredictable; just as everything seemed to be moving steadily in a bright direction, the sudden bad news struck like a bolt from the blue. Although her father had never really looked at her with much regard since she was a child, he was her father after all. With his death, Miladi was now truly left without any kin in this world.
