The temple sat right in the center of Cheng'an Town, surrounded by neat, orderly bluestone streets and bustling residences and shops. Its entrance featured a towering red carved-wooden gate, with faded lanterns hanging from the lintel that swayed gently in the breeze. Right in the center hung a plaque bearing three large characters written in Xia Hong's own hand: "Nanan Temple". Looking into the temple, an atmosphere of tranquil and unusual solemnity rushed over them. Several ancient trees reached toward the sky, their intertwined branches casting lush shade over this pure Buddhist sanctuary. Beneath the trees, stone tables and stools were arranged with natural grace. Believers filled the grounds, yet there was not the slightest trace of noise or clamor. Calm and peaceful smiles graced the faces of both monks and lay followers.
