To them, blood pools were much like houses to humans. The "blood pools" Hu Lin had spoken of referred to the Undying Fire ponds where Immortal Birds had been reborn through fire; because the color of the flames was blood-red, they were even more intense than ordinary fire ponds. Immortal Birds would seek out suitable Undying Fire ponds to lay their eggs, using the Undying Fire to incubate them, and these ponds would then become the homes for the hatchlings. The adult Immortal Birds would not guard the ponds; they simply returned to their own pits to continue their lives.
