Arriving at the back alley, Dumbledore drew his wand.
Looking at the wand, which resembled a series of knuckles, Erwin couldn't help taking a second glance. This was the Elder Wand!
Dumbledore said, "Mr. Cavendish, you must remember what I do next! Next time you come, you'll have to get in by yourself! First, find the third brick up from the garbage can, then count two bricks across!"
As he spoke, the Elder Wand tapped against the two bricks.
The next moment, the wall began to shift and overlap like a mechanism being triggered, revealing the street within!
Seeing a scene straight out of movies and books unfold before his very eyes, Erwin felt a mixture of excitement and curiosity.
In fact, Erwin was rather curious about the mechanics behind it.
Could this thing be moved back home?
Erwin thought it had potential—for instance, putting a wall in his bedroom.
Tap the second brick to go to the dining room, tap the third to go to the bathroom.
Tap the fifth to go to the garden, and so on. Erwin had already thought of many clever uses.
This was far more convenient than an elevator!
Dumbledore put away his wand and asked, "Well, did you remember?"
Erwin nodded. "I remember! But what if this garbage can isn't here anymore?"
Dumbledore smiled. "A very interesting thought! Before you, two of your upperclassmen had the exact same idea! They even put it into action and moved the garbage can away! But unfortunately, this garbage can has a Reversion Charm cast upon it. Once it leaves its location, it automatically returns! So the problem you're worried about simply doesn't exist."
Erwin said, "Magic is truly marvelous!"
Dumbledore smiled. "Well! Afterwards you will learn about even more marvelous magic. This is a brand new world! I believe that with your intelligence and talent, you will shine brightly within this brand new world! Now, let's go to Gringotts to exchange some money first! Otherwise, you won't be able to make any purchases in Diagon Alley today!"
Erwin nodded.
Then he followed behind Dumbledore, walking deeper into Diagon Alley.
Diagon Alley wasn't long, just a single street, and at the very end of the street stood Gringotts.
The doors of Gringotts were double-layered. The first layer consisted of two massive bronze doors!
On either side of the doors stood two goblins dressed in awkward-looking uniforms, performing greeting duties.
The second layer was a pair of silver doors adorned with gold lines.
Warning inscriptions were engraved upon the doors:
Enter, stranger, but take heed,
Of what awaiteth the sin of greed,
For those who take, but do not earn,
Must pay most dearly in return,
So if you seek beneath our floors,
A treasure that was never yours,
Thief, you have been warned, beware
Of finding there more than treasure, fair.
Erwin felt nothing but disdain in his heart.
In the original story, wasn't the so-called safest Gringotts attacked more than once?
Most importantly, Erwin truly didn't understand why these wizards were so willing to entrust all their wealth to the care of these so-called goblins.
Goblins were greedy, and out of greed they had once started wars.
Above all, these goblins were a different race—non-kin whose hearts must surely be different. Didn't these wizards understand this simple logic?
Or were these wizards simply so confident in their ability to control the goblins?
Passing through the second set of doors, they entered a vast marble hall.
Erwin glanced around and saw about a hundred goblins sitting behind a long counter, hurriedly scribbling in large ledgers.
Some were weighing coins with scales, while others inspected gemstones with loupes.
The entire marble hall could only be described as magnificent.
Gemstones and gold coins flashed with brilliant light.
Dumbledore led Erwin straight to the front desk.
A goblin wearing spectacles adjusted the glasses on the bridge of his nose.
Recognizing who had arrived, he hurriedly leaped down from the high-legged stool that towered over him.
"Good day, Professor Dumbledore! Welcome to Gringotts! Is there anything I can do for you?"
Dumbledore nodded. "This is Mr. Cavendish, and he wishes to exchange some Galleons! As for myself, I need to retrieve something."
The goblin nodded.
"Understood! Shall I show you the way now?"
Dumbledore looked at Erwin. "Can you manage on your own?"
Erwin nodded. "Of course! Please go attend to your business, Professor! I can handle it myself!"
Dumbledore leaned down close to Erwin's ear and lowered his voice. "Goblins are very greedy! If you feel the exchange rate is unfair, you can try dropping my name. Although I am quite old, I still hold some sway!"
Erwin nodded. "Thank you, Professor!"
Dumbledore smiled and walked away with the goblin.
Erwin watched the direction Dumbledore left.
His brow furrowed slightly.
He felt that Dumbledore was treating him a bit too well.
Erwin didn't dwell on it further after Dumbledore departed.
Soon, another goblin came over to receive him.
With Dumbledore's name hanging in the balance, the process of exchanging for Galleons went unexpectedly smoothly!
Erwin traded two cases of gold bars for five thousand Galleons!
Weighing the gold coins in his hand,
Erwin felt the amount was quite reasonable.
Taking advantage of the time before Dumbledore returned,
Erwin began to examine his system.
He hadn't had the chance to look into his golden finger until now, but he really needed to study it properly now; after all, this would be the foundation of his foothold in the wizarding world.
Erwin murmured silently in his heart: "System! Are you there?"
[Ding! The Strongest Prestige Gacha System is at your service! Hello, Host!]
Hearing this voice, Erwin felt a stir in his heart.
The name inexplicably gave off the vibe of some trap-laden video game from his past life.
"System, introduce your functions!"
[Ding! This system allows the host to draw cards using prestige, with rewards including but not limited to Spells, Talents, and more!]
[The unified currency used by this system is wizarding world Prestige Points!]
[For the host's convenience, the system has digitized all of the host's current information! Would you like to view it?]
Without any hesitation, Erwin mentally commanded to view it.
The next moment.
A virtual light screen unfolded before Erwin.
Erwin glanced around his surroundings.
Both Old Tom and the goblins maintained completely normal expressions.
It was clear that only Erwin could see this light screen!
