Lin Shunyi was all too familiar with this sensation. Every month when her period arrived, it brought with it a pain so agonizing it made her wish she were dead. Mother Lin would always boil her a cup of ginger and brown sugar water. While it wasn't the most effective remedy, sipping the warm liquid would eventually dull the edge of the pain. After Lin Ge returned home and learned of her condition, he began making the drink for her, hoping to curry her favor. Lin Shunyi, however, felt a deep sense of revulsion knowing Lin Ge was the one who prepared it. She would resolutely refuse to drink it and had even scolded him quite harshly on several occasions. Back then, Lin Ge had only just returned, and to Lin Shunyi, he was nothing more than a stranger. She found it deeply uncomfortable that a young man would be boiling sugar water to treat such an intimate, feminine pain.
