The two first met around 2009 during the filming of "Wind Blast." Wu Jing was famous for his intense dedication to action scenes, but he was known to be a bit stiff when it came to dramatic acting—the very area where Old Duan excelled.
As previously noted, Old Duan held actors who took their craft seriously in high regard. He believed that if you tried your best and still fell short, that was a matter of natural talent or approach, but a lack of effort to improve was something he simply could not abide.
The two hit it off immediately: Wu Jing mentored Duan Yihong in action sequences, while Duan took charge of refining Wu Jing’s dramatic performances. By the time the shoot concluded, the two had developed a deep friendship; later, when Duan Yihong married, Wu Jing even served as his best man.
