Even for actors with powerful backgrounds, the most they can do is latch onto a certain director and keep playing roles in their films. Even then, the production will definitely find a bankable leading man and leading lady, along with a supporting cast strong enough to hold the whole project together.
That sort of thing is just cashing in favors and throwing money at a forced production.
