Chapter 13

1,308 words7 minutes read

"I..."
Bang!
Without giving Ma Qiang a chance to speak, Qi Tongwei brought the butt of his rifle down hard across Ma Qiang's mouth.
Blood instantly filled Ma Qiang's mouth, and more than half of his teeth were shattered.
"This one is for all the girls you forced into prostitution!"
Bang!
"This one is for the families you and your fellow drug traffickers tore apart, leaving lives in ruins!"
Bang!
"And this one is for the comrades lying right here who gave their lives!"
...
It takes a villain to deal with a villain!
Qi Tongwei had never considered himself some kind of saint. To climb the ranks, he could be ruthless, cunning, and stop at nothing. But he still had his own bottom line as a human being! He would never lose his dignity, nor would he ever profit at the expense of innocent people the way Ma Qiang did.
Therefore, for a crazed drug dealer like Ma Qiang, he would never let him off easy!
With that, Qi Tongwei struck Ma Qiang again and again, the warehouse echoing only with the sound of heavy blows. It wasn't until Ma Qiang passed out cold that Qi Tongwei finally stopped, shaking the blood off his rifle butt with a look of disgust.
Then, hoisting Ma Qiang with one hand, he bent down and scooped up the unconscious Li Hongqi with the other. With the stub of a cigarette still dangling from his lips, he strode out of the warehouse.
...
Outside the warehouse.
Ever since the gunfire began, the hearts of Station Chief Zhang, Wang Zhan, and the others had sunk to the bottom. With gunfire that intense, there was no telling how many guns were inside that warehouse! Qi Tongwei had gone in alone, and now with the shooting stopped, his chances of survival looked slim.
"Station Chief, let's charge in!"
"Charge? You tell me how we're supposed to charge in!" The station chief swept a glance over the trembling auxiliary officers around him and sighed helplessly. "Xiaowang, we can't break through!"
He couldn't afford to send any more of his remaining officers in to die. With seasoned fighters like Li Hongqi and Qi Tongwei from their station falling into the hands of drug dealers one after another, all they could do now was wait.
"Station Chief! Station Chief!"
Just then, a police car pulled up in the distance, and an older officer rushed over, escorting Xiaoyou.
Seeing that Xiaoyou had come as well, the station chief's brow furrowed instantly.
"This is madness! Why did you bring her here?"
The older officer looked thoroughly helpless as he lowered his voice to explain, "She heard that Xiaoji had walked right into danger alone and insisted on coming. I couldn't talk her out of it, so I just... sigh!"
Tears streaming down her face, Xiaoyou stood before the station chief and demanded stubbornly, "Station Chief, why did you send Brother Tongwei in there?"
When Xiaoyou had seen Qi Tongwei walking alone into mortal danger on live television, it had hit her like a bolt of lightning, shattering her entire world!
It was at that exact moment that Xiaoyou suddenly realized she had fallen deeply in love with the young man who had rescued her from the den of monsters.
"What do you know? Wang Zhan, take her away! Now!"
The station chief was already at his wit's end. Did they really think he *wanted* to watch Qi Tongwei walk to his death?
Screech!
Suddenly, the harsh sound of the warehouse door opening echoed in the distance, instantly drawing everyone's attention.
There stood Qi Tongwei, a cigarette dangling from his mouth with a nonchalant swagger, dragging Ma Qiang with one hand and carrying Li Hongqi in the other. His tall, sturdy figure appeared at the warehouse entrance as he let out a loud roar.
"Station Chief, call an ambulance already!"
"???"
Call an ambulance? Again?
The ambulances in Binhai City sure were busy tonight!
Wait.
Qi Tongwei was still alive? If he was alive, that meant...
Everyone outside was struck dumb, staring unbelievingly at Qi Tongwei's figure. The station chief stood slack-jawed, even rubbing his eyes as if he were hallucinating. The reporters who had stubbornly lingered at the scene dropped their microphones to the ground without even realizing it.
"Master!"
"Brother Tongwei!"
"Someone go help! Hurry!"
Snapped back to reality by the station chief's roar, the group of stunned police officers shook off their stupor. Without another second of hesitation, every cop nearby—detectives and auxiliary officers alike—sprinted flat-out toward Qi Tongwei.
Further back, the cameramen frantically aimed their lenses at Qi Tongwei's figure, capturing shot after frantic shot.
...
"Master! Are you alright?"
Wang Zhan, the fastest runner of the lot, reached Qi Tongwei's side first, disbelief still lingering in his eyes.
Qi Tongwei flashed a grin and bantered with his young apprentice.
"I'm *not* alright! I'm starving to death—go get me something to eat! As much as you can find!"
"Right, right!"
Next, the team of detectives Qi Tongwei had brought with him rushed up.
"Captain, what's the situation in there?"
"What happened to Brother Jiu?"
"Captain, are you hurt?"
...
"I'm fine!"
Qi Tongwei dropped Ma Qiang onto the ground, handed Li Hongqi over to a nearby detective, and nodded toward the warehouse. "Go rescue the people inside! The drug dealers in there should be pretty much taken care of, but search thoroughly. Also, a lot of our brothers might be in critical condition—call more ambulances!"
Holy crap!
Qi Tongwei had single-handedly taken down another drug den?
The detectives were utterly shaken! They already knew Qi Tongwei was an absolute monster after watching him capture Qi Dawei and Zhen Sanjiang all by himself. But now, he had plunged straight into a tiger's den and wiped out every single drug dealer alone while completely handicapped!
This had to be a real-life superhero! If Qi Tongwei went into acting, he wouldn't even need wire-fu—he could just play himself!
Ignoring the stunned, statue-like detectives around him, Qi Tongwei spat out his cigarette butt. Just as he reached for another, a figure slammed fiercely into his chest.
"Sob, sob... Brother Tongwei!"
Xiaoyou? Why was she here too?
With fond indulgence, Qi Tongwei patted Xiaoyou's head and gently coaxed, "Don't do that, I'm filthy!"
Xiaoyou shook her head, refusing to let go no matter what.
With no other choice, Qi Tongwei wrapped an arm around her shoulder and walked past the group of awestruck auxiliary officers straight toward the station chief.
"Reporting to the station chief, Officer Qi Tongwei has successfully completed the mission!"
"Good, good, good! Qi Tongwei, you truly are magnificent!"
Looking at the tall, heroic figure before him, the station chief's eyes held a mix of deep admiration and reluctance. Qi Tongwei didn't belong in a suburban police station anymore; he was a giant Buddha, and the suburban station's temple was simply too small to contain his talents. In truth, the station chief had wanted to recommend Li Hongqi for promotion long ago, but Li Hongqi had stubbornly refused to leave this rundown little place!
"Xiaoji, go get some rest right now! Are you hurt? The ambulance is right outside!"
"I'm fine, just a few scratches. Nothing to worry about."
Brushing off the station chief's concern and good intentions, Qi Tongwei kept walking. With his arm around Xiaoyou's shoulder, escorted by a swarm of reporters and flashing camera lights, he climbed into a police car.
He was genuinely exhausted. Having gone two full days and nights without proper sleep, even his Innate Tier constitution was reaching its limit.
Sitting inside the car, Qi Tongwei narrowed his eyes and quickly drifted into a deep sleep.
Little did he know the sensation his exploits, captured by the cameras of the press, were about to cause across Handong and the entire nation.
