The campus study life gradually got back on track, and teachers of various subjects met with the students one after another.
During the class meeting yesterday afternoon, Teacher Tang, the head teacher, informed everyone about two matters.
The first matter was that there would be a monthly exam from now on, and the scores of each exam would be posted in the class group chat. Many students in the class put away their playful minds and began to listen to the lectures attentively.
The second matter was that a week later, a week-long military training would be held during the day.
Knowing the school's past practices, the students discussed it animatedly, but they were not too surprised and accepted it well.
While accepting the arrangements made by the class teacher, Jiang Shengyan also proceeded with her own study plan step by step. She wrote down the test papers for other subjects that she had downloaded from the school's academic administration system last time to see where she fell short, and focused on those aspects during class.
"Ring-a-ling..." The class dismissal bell rang.
"Yanyan, let's hurry to the cafeteria!" Lin Mengke blurted out impatiently, pulling Jiang Shengyan into the crowd.
Inside the school cafeteria.
"I heard long ago that the sweet and sour pork ribs in the school cafeteria are especially delicious!" Lin Mengke linked her arm through Jiang Shengyan's and shook it excitedly. "Let's hurry up and get in line, or they'll be gone soon."
Jiang Shengyan smiled and gave a soft "mm." She had already eaten them before and knew they were indeed good, but having eaten them for three years, she had long lost interest. Still, she let Lin Mengke drag her into the queue.
The line moved forward slowly, and Lin Mengke kept chattering away: "You know what? I heard from a classmate in Class 2 that this new chef used to work at a five-star hotel!" She turned her head, her eyes shining brightly. "Do you think we'll be lucky enough to catch him cooking today?"
"Maybe so. Even if we can't eat it today, there's always tomorrow; we're going to eat here for three years," Jiang Shengyan said with a smile. "By the time we're seniors, we might even be sick of it."
"That's true, there's plenty of time," Lin Mengke nodded.
After buying their food, the two looked around to see where there were empty seats.
"Jiang Shengyan, Lin Mengke, over here!" Xu Jingyu's voice suddenly rang out. He waved at them, revealing a row of neat, white teeth. "Sit with us!"
Both girls were exceptionally attractive, and even in their school uniforms, they looked youthfully striking.
Many people in the cafeteria noticed this side, caught sight of the four of them, and started whispering and getting excited.
Lin Mengke hurriedly pulled Jiang Shengyan over.
"You two really know how to attract attention like bees and butterflies, this is so socially mortifying," Jiang Shengyan said with a trace of disdain.
"Takes one to know one, alright," Shen Jingyan twitched the corner of his eye.
Jiang Shengyan curled her lips. Look at him, looking all seductive just like an enchantress.
"Oh, these are just minor scenes. With my dashing, jade-like handsome appearance, isn't it completely normal for people to like me?" Xu Jingyu said confidently.
"Xu Jingyu, don't ever tell anyone outside that you know me, I can't afford to lose that kind of face," Shen Jingyan moved aside to make room.
Xu Jingyu sat next to Shen Jingyan. Lin Mengke had already sat down opposite Xu Jingyu, leaving Jiang Shengyan with no choice but to sit opposite Shen Jingyan.
"Brother Yan, you really have no taste," Xu Jingyu pouted. Xu Jingyu was a sunny, handsome guy—very bright and rugged, with much less aggressive charm than Shen Jingyan.
"As expected, they say handsome guys know they're handsome, but this is the first time I've seen someone so narcissistic... oh no, confident," Lin Mengke said with a smile.
"Thanks for the compliment, I'll take it," Xu Jingyu gladly chose to hear what he liked.
"..." The other three.
"I heard the school's pork ribs are delicious, but it's a pity they were already gone by the time we got there," Lin Mengke pouted.
Hearing this, Xu Jingyu raised an eyebrow and tapped his fingers on the table. "Then you might be disappointed." He pointed at their food tray. "The last portion was bought by us."
Lin Mengke's face instantly fell, but she quickly perked up again: "It's fine, there'll be another chance next time!"
"Alright, alright, let's eat together," Shen Jingyan placed the sweet and sour pork ribs in the middle of the four of them.
"Student God Shen is still the kindest," Lin Mengke stared at the sweet and sour pork ribs with stars in her eyes, preparing to pick up a piece right away.
"I'm very loving too, alright? I'm the one who snatched these, you have to praise me as well," Xu Jingyu picked the plate up to stop Lin Mengke from grabbing any.
"Fine, fine, you're wonderful too~" Lin Mengke blurted out quickly. "Now let me taste one!"
"Such a perfunctory woman, humph." Xu Jingyu still put the ribs down for her to take.
Lin Mengke ignored him.
"Right," Lin Mengke suddenly remembered something. "Did you guys hear? Military training starts next Monday."
Jiang Shengyan's hand holding her chopsticks paused slightly, a wave of irritation rising in her heart. She hated military training the most, not to mention having to bake under the scorching sun.
"I heard," Xu Jingyu took a sip of soup. "Word is they've invited military instructors this time, and it's going to be very strict."
Jiang Shengyan poked at her rice, sighed, and said nothing.
Shen Jingyan chuckled softly, his gaze lingering on Jiang Shengyan as if casually. "What? Afraid of getting tanned?"
Feeling his gaze on her, Jiang Shengyan looked up at him, rolled her eyes inwardly, and put on a fake smile. "As if, I'm worried you won't be able to handle it."
"Is that so? Then I'll wait and see." Shen Jingyan curved the corners of his lips, a hint of playfulness in his eyes.
Jiang Shengyan ignored him. Although she was indeed afraid of tanning, she had bought sunscreen long ago and used it every day. But in the face of provocation, she definitely couldn't admit defeat!
Glancing at his fair face without even a large pore in sight, she refused to believe he wouldn't change after the military training. Jiang Shengyan poked her rice with lingering grievance.
Lin Mengke and Xu Jingyu exchanged a glance, both seeing surprise in each other's eyes. Why did these two sound so sarcastic when talking to each other?
Lin Mengke quickly defused the atmosphere: "This is killing me, Teacher Tang said cell phones will be confiscated during military training." Lin Mengke poked at her mapo tofu, which was already turning cold. "My newly bought sunscreen hasn't even reached the pickup station yet."
Xu Jingyu pushed two bottles of iced cola over. "I've stocked half a box of sunscreen spray, I'll bring you a bottle tomorrow."
"Then I won't stand on ceremony," Lin Mengke beamed with joy.
"I can only hope next week is entirely overcast," Lin Mengke rambled on.
Though Jiang Shengyan desperately wanted to agree, barring any accidents, next week would be entirely sunny, so she'd better just apply more sunscreen.
She suddenly remembered that the side of the gymnasium was blocked by the teaching building and had no sun. In her past life, she often liked to stay alone there during physical education class.
"Actually... the west corridor of the gymnasium doesn't get any sun," Jiang Shengyan said hesitantly. She actually quite liked that place; there were few people, she enjoyed her moments of solitude, and she didn't dislike lively crowds either.
"How do you know about that place?" Shen Jingyan asked, somewhat puzzled, considering school had just started and the campus wasn't exactly small.
"Discovered it by accident," Jiang Shengyan said nonchalantly.
Just as Xu Jingyu reached for the napkin box, Lin Mengke suddenly slammed the table: "Right! I'll just say I'm allergic to ultraviolet rays!"
"Then how have you lived this long if you can't stand the sun?" Xu Jingyu was startled and gave her a speechless look.
