Following the passing of Sun Chen, Lin Yuyao shouldered the heavy responsibility of carrying on his legacy and guarding the nation alone. Though her hair had turned completely white, the determination and wisdom in her eyes never faded.
Li Yunfei and other leaders of the new generation constantly kept the teachings of Sun Chen and Lin Yuyao in mind, taking them as role models as they diligently governed the country. Thanks to their efforts, the nation's prosperity surpassed anything seen in the past, and the common people lived even more affluent and peaceful lives.
However, the scene of peace and prosperity did not satisfy everyone. In the border regions, a number of ambitious tribal chieftains grew jealous and greedy upon seeing the country's flourishing state. They colluded in secret, forming a powerful coalition army in an attempt to invade this fertile land.
The flames of war quickly ignited along the borders, and battle reports flew toward the Imperial Capital like snowflakes. Upon learning of this, Lin Yuyao was frantic with anxiety. She knew all too well the cruelty of war and understood that the nation was facing a severe test.
Li Yunfei and other commanders proactively volunteered to lead troops to the border to fend off the foreign enemy. In the rear, Lin Yuyao organized the populace to support the front lines, ensuring a steady supply of provisions and manpower.
On the battlefield, smoke billowed and the deafening roar of battle shook the air. Taking the lead and charging into the fray, Li Yunfei displayed extraordinary courage and command ability. Inspired by him, the soldiers morale soared as they fought valiantly to slay the enemy.
Nevertheless, the enemy forces were numerous and well-equipped. The fighting was exceptionally fierce, and the two sides fell into a stalemate.
At this critical juncture, Lin Yuyao decided to travel to the front lines herself to boost morale. Ignoring everyone's dissuasion, she embarked on the arduous journey.
When Lin Yuyao appeared on the front lines, the soldiers were profoundly inspired. They knew that this elderly lady had devoted her entire life to the country and its people; her arrival strengthened their resolve to defend their homeland.
Standing before the battle formation, Lin Yuyao delivered a passionate speech: "Warriors! Our nation has weathered countless storms to achieve the prosperity we enjoy today. Now, the enemy vainly attempts to strip away our happiness, and we will never allow it! Let us fight to the end for justice and for our homeland!"
The soldiers shouted in unison, their voices shaking the heavens.
Inspired by Lin Yuyao, Li Yunfei adjusted his strategy and adopted flexible, shifting tactics. Utilizing the terrain to their advantage, they launched multiple surprise attacks on the enemy forces, gradually turning the tide of battle.
After several fierce skirmishes, the enemy army finally began to rout. Leading his troops in hot pursuit, Li Yunfei drove the enemy forces completely out of the borderlands.
The victory in this war elevated the nation's prestige to even greater heights. Surrounding tribes successively sent envoys to sue for peace, expressing their willingness to submit in perpetuity.
Yet the wounds of war needed time to heal. Lin Yuyao, Li Yunfei, and other leaders began devoting themselves to post-war reconstruction. They comforted the common people, distributed relief supplies, and rebuilt towns and villages devastated by the flames of war.
During the reconstruction process, a young man named Xiaofeng demonstrated exceptional organizational and managerial talent. He had originally been an ordinary farmer who lost his home in the war. Noticing him, Lin Yuyao promoted him to an official post and had him participate in the reconstruction work.
Living up to expectations, Xiaofeng accomplished every task brilliantly and won the recognition of all.
As the country gradually recovered from the shadow of war, a new problem presented itself. Due to prolonged peace and prosperity, certain officials began to grow corrupt and lax, and undesirable trends emerged within society.
Lin Yuyao knew deep down that a profound reform was essential to eradicate these maladies and maintain the country's long-term stability and security.
She summoned core members such as Li Yunfei and Xiaofeng to discuss a reform plan. Following extended discussions and studies, they formulated a series of rigorous laws and regulations, strengthened supervision and evaluation of officials, and vigorously advocated for integrity and justice while fostering sound social conduct.
In the course of the reforms, they encountered heavy resistance. Certain vested interests attempted to obstruct the changes, but Lin Yuyao's attitude was resolute and unyielding. She declared that no matter the cost, she would set the country back on the right track.
Through Lin Yuyao's perseverance, the reforms achieved remarkable results. The conduct of officials improved, social morals took on a completely new look, and the country radiated vibrant new life once more.
Years later, Lin Yuyao reached the end of her life. As she lay dying, pillars of the state such as Li Yunfei and Xiaofeng kept watch beside her bed.
In a faint voice, she said, "Children, remember: the prosperity of our nation was not easily won. It requires the effort and vigilance of generation after generation. I believe that you will make this country better and better..."
With those words, Lin Yuyao slowly closed her eyes, a serene smile resting upon her face.
A grand funeral was held nationwide for Lin Yuyao, and the people bid farewell to this great woman with heavy hearts.
As time flowed on, the deeds of Sun Chen and Lin Yuyao became an eternal legend, praised and passed down by future generations without end. Their spirit inspired generation after generation to strive tirelessly for the nation's prosperity and the people's happiness.
Influenced by them, the country perpetually maintained its strength and prosperity, becoming a brilliant pearl upon the world stage.
