Chapter 8

1,313 words7 minutes read

A moment later, Zhao Yinkong appeared before Wen Lie, walking toward the two of them at a leisurely pace.
Zheng Zha hurriedly asked, "Where did you run off to?"
Zhao Yinkong calmly replied, "I knocked out the museum curator and the staff here. They should wake up in about an hour."
Zheng Zha's mouth twitched. Zhao Yinkong's method of solving problems certainly was simple and crude.
Stepping past Zheng Zha, Wen Lie said unconcernedly, "Then let's get a move on. Where is the warehouse?"
Aside from the museum staff, how would an outsider know where the warehouse was?
The three of them searched for quite a while before finding a room that looked like a warehouse. Zheng Zha snapped the door lock with his bare hands, pushed open the heavy iron door, and they filed into the room.
The room was very spacious, with shelves and crates neatly arranged everywhere. Statues, ivory wands, stone tablets, and paintings were left out in the open, but Wen Lie swept a cursory glance over them—these were not what he was looking for.
Zheng Zha asked, "What on earth are you looking for? Can you tell us now?"
Wen Lie placed the box of desserts by the door and reached out to open a nearby crate, but it was locked.
"A sword, similar to a katana, a very ornate sword. It has a bizarre magic to it and will control anyone who picks it up, so once we find it, absolutely do not touch it."
Wen Lie took two steps back and motioned for Zheng Zha to open the crate.
Zhao Yinkong pulled the Nether Fire from the sharkskin sheath tied to her waist, severed the iron lock on the crate, pushed the lid open, and glanced inside. Not finding the katana Wen Lie had described, she moved on to another crate.
Zheng Zha followed suit and began opening crates as well.
The dozens of crates in the warehouse were opened one after another by Zhao Yinkong and Zheng Zha.
Wen Lie stood to the side, his heels tapping continuously against the floor as his gaze followed Zhao Yinkong and Zheng Zha, his pupils flickering with anticipation and tension.
Whether this succeeds or fails, whether he can make his first fortune in this horror movie, all depends on today!
"Found it!"
Zhao Yinkong reached the corner of the warehouse and opened a dusty, gray crate. A long sword in its scabbard appeared before her eyes. Its tsuba was golden, seemingly embedded with red jewels, perfectly matching Wen Lie's description.
Wen Lie and Zheng Zha hurried over.
Seeing the long sword inside the crate, joy appeared on Wen Lie's face. "That's it, exactly this sword! A Stand! Stand: God Anubis!"
Stand: God Anubis originated from *JoJo's Bizarre Adventure Part 3: Stardust Crusaders*, a Stand hinting at the Egyptian god of the underworld and guardian of graveyards.
Its user was a blacksmith from five hundred years ago, who was also a Stand User. After his death, his Stand attached itself to the sword, lying dormant in the Cairo Museum warehouse until DIO discovered it, bringing it back into the light to become one of DIO's subordinates.
Its stats were: Destructive Power: B; Speed: B; Range: E; Durability: A; Precision: E; Developmental Potential: C.
It possessed three abilities. First, it controls anyone who draws the blade from its scabbard, and anyone who touches the blade directly with their hands will also be controlled. Second, after clashing with an enemy, it can memorize the enemy's attack power, speed, and style, allowing itself to learn them. Third, the blade can attack targets through objects, striking a target behind an obstacle without damaging the obstacle itself.
As everyone knew, the Mummy World experienced by the China Team incorporated elements of *Indiana Jones* and *JoJo's Bizarre Adventure*.
Jonathan and Evelyn obtained the Stone Mask known as the Mask of Evolution from the Mayan ruins. The Infinite Version of the Stone Mask could transform the wearer into an advanced life form, allowing ordinary people to unlock the 4th Genetic Lock in a short time, and upon obtaining the Red Stone of Aja, evolve toward Tier 5.
Reincarnators who had unlocked the 4th Genetic Lock could even experience what it felt like to unlock the 5th Genetic Lock by wearing the Stone Mask.
By reasonable deduction, if there was a heavily modified version of the Stone Mask, there would be a heavily modified version of the Bow and Arrow, and with a heavily modified version of the Bow and Arrow, there would be Stand Users.
The Stand: God Anubis, gathering dust at the bottom of the Cairo Museum warehouse, was a Stand that could be found during this time period.
It was also the only ownerless Stand that anyone could use, and likewise the only reliance for an ordinary person to secure branch plot points in a team battle in The Mummy World.
"Ugh... I know Anubis, but a Stand...?"
Neither Zheng Zha nor Zhao Yinkong were anime fans. Hearing Wen Lie's name for the long sword, Zheng Zha wore a look of utter confusion.
"Simply put, a Stand is an image manifested from spiritual energy, capable of executing various special abilities or interacting with targets. It comes from *JoJo's Bizarre Adventure*."
Wen Lie shared the stats, abilities, and origins of Stand: God Anubis with Zheng Zha and Zhao Yinkong.
Zheng Zha asked, "You mean, once I use Stand: God Anubis, I'll become a swordsmanship master? The price is being controlled by the sword spirit?"
"God Anubis has human-level intelligence; we can negotiate with it." Wen Lie reached out to grab the scabbard of Stand: God Anubis, saying to Zheng Zha and Zhao Yinkong, "I'm just an ordinary person. Even if I get controlled, with the two of you's strength, it shouldn't be enough that you can't suppress me. However, it's best for one person to go first—God Anubis submits to the strong. In the original plot, the master of God Anubis was a vampire who subdued it with his own strength."
Zheng Zha and Zhao Yinkong exchanged glances.
Wen Lie's intention was already crystal clear: he would take the risk of drawing God Anubis.
Zheng Zha would fight Wen Lie, who was controlled by God Anubis. If he won, the China Team would gain an extra combat-capable member; if he lost, both of them would step in together and use brute force to threaten God Anubis.
*(Obtained plot item — Stand: God Anubis. The holder can acquire Stand: God Anubis. If the user's mental power is less than 1000, they will be controlled by Stand: God Anubis.)*
The moment the long sword was drawn out, God's prompt sounded in their ears, proving that Wen Lie had not found the wrong thing.
Zheng Zha and Zhao Yinkong stood on either side of Wen Lie, ready to immediately subdue him should any uncontrollable situation arise.
Wen Lie took a deep breath, mentally preparing himself. He gripped the scabbard with his right hand and the hilt with his left, slowly drawing the long sword out.
The blade was cold, narrow, and long, as if drenched in freezing springwater. The bright, clean spine of the blade reflected Wen Lie's face, and a purple aura invisible to the naked eye emanated from it.
Neither Wen Lie nor Zheng Zha were experts in using blades, but upon seeing this sword, only a single thought filled their minds—what a fine blade!
This was a fine blade that did not exist in the real world!
Once the blade was drawn, Wen Lie's brain felt somewhat drowsy, as if he had stayed up all night without sleep.
"Awoo! I, God Anubis, see the light of day once more! Finally, I don't have to be locked up in that pitch-black box anymore!"
A roar of wild joy could be faintly heard echoing in their ears.
