"You have finally come..." The voice was ancient and ethereal, as if it came from the dawn of time, echoing in my mind and refusing to fade.
I looked around, but there was no one in sight. Who was speaking? Could it be... this sword?
The long black sword in my hand trembled violently, as if in response to my doubt. I concentrated hard, trying to catch the source of the voice, only to find that it seemed to come from all directions, ubiquitous yet untraceable.
"Child, do not be afraid." The voice sounded again, carrying a trace of comfort. "I am the sword spirit of this sword. You may call me Qingyunzi."
A sword spirit? I was startled. Legend had it that only an Ancient Divine Artifact could give birth to a sword spirit. Could this sword...
"Child, I know you have many doubts in your mind, but time is short, so I will make it brief." Qingyunzi's voice grew solemn. "This sword is named Heart Sword. It possesses the power to seal all evil in the world, but at the same time, it is a double-edged sword. If you cannot control it, you will be consumed by it."
"Control it? How do I control it?" I asked anxiously.
"The Heart Sword takes the heart as its guide and intent as its power," Qingyunzi said slowly. "You must calm your heart, feel it, and establish a connection with it in order to master its power."
I took a deep breath, closed my eyes, and sank my mind into the long black sword in my hand. A cold yet powerful force instantly surged into my body, and I felt as if my consciousness was being dragged into a boundless, dark abyss, with fear and anxiety washing over me like a tide.
"Lier! Lier! Are you alright?" A familiar voice rang out in the darkness. It was Qu Chen! I snapped my eyes open to see Qu Chen, Linger, and Xuanfeng anxiously surrounding me.
"I'm fine," I shook my head, my heart settling slightly.
"Lier, what just happened to you? We felt a powerful fluctuation of power and, fearing something had happened to you, rushed right back," Linger asked with concern.
"I'm fine. I've found a way to control this sword." I took a deep breath, looked at the long black sword in my hand, and my gaze turned firm.
"What method?" Qu Chen asked.
I looked at them and said word by word, "I am going to become one with it."
"Become one with it?!" Linger gasped, grabbing my hand. "Lier, this is too dangerous! Didn't Senior Qingyunzi say this sword is a double-edged sword? If you do this..."
I gripped Linger's hand back, giving her a resolute look. "Linger, trust me, I can definitely do it." I turned to Qu Chen and Xuanfeng. Although their eyes were also filled with worry, there was even more trust and support.
"What do we need to do?" Qu Chen asked, his tone steady and powerful.
I took a deep breath and said slowly, "Senior Qingyunzi told me that the Heart Sword takes the heart as its guide and intent as its power. I need you to protect me. During the process of my fusion with the Heart Sword, do not let anyone disturb me."
"Alright!" the three of them said in unison, their eyes resolute.
I nodded, sat cross-legged, closed my eyes, and completely immersed my mind in the long black sword in my hand. This time, I felt no resistance at all, as if the Heart Sword was also responding to my determination. I guided the Spiritual Power within my body, slowly injecting it into the Heart Sword, feeling it gradually merge with my blood and my soul.
The Spiritual Energy around me began to fluctuate violently, forming a huge vortex that enveloped me in the center. I felt a powerful force coursing endlessly through my body, as if it wanted to tear me apart. But I did not flinch; I clenched my teeth and guided this force, letting it flow through my meridians and finally converge in my Dantian.
I do not know how much time passed before my consciousness gradually returned. I opened my eyes, and everything before me became incomparably clear. I stood up and felt a strength like never before filling my entire body. With a single thought, the long black sword in my hand turned into a stream of light, wrapped around my wrist, and transformed into a lifelike black dragon-shaped bracelet.
"It worked!" Linger jumped up with excitement, spinning around me. "Lier, you're amazing!"
I smiled slightly, and with another thought, the black dragon-shaped bracelet transformed back into a long black sword. The blade exuded a faint chill, as if it could sever all evil in the world.
"Is this the true power of the Heart Sword?" Xuanfeng muttered to himself, his eyes filled with shock.
I nodded and looked into the distance, toward the direction where the Demonic Cultivators were entrenched. The power of the Heart Sword allowed me to clearly perceive that those evil auras were stirring restlessly.
"We cannot let them run amok any longer," I said in a deep voice. "I am going to use this power to protect everything I want to protect!"
Over the next few days, I used the power of the Heart Sword to set up a series of defensive Formations around the valley. These Formations combined my Spiritual Power with the sealing power of the Heart Sword, making their might several times stronger than before. I believed that even if the Demonic Cultivators attacked again, they would not easily breach our defense.
Everything was ready. The four of us stood at the highest point of the valley, gazing into the distance.
"Lier," Linger suddenly spoke, her tone rather solemn. "I sense..."
Before Linger could finish, Xuanfeng also nodded and took over, "That's right. My Communication Talisman is also stirring. The activities of the Demonic Cultivators are becoming more and more frequent, and furthermore, I sense several powerful auras. I'm afraid..."
Their words confirmed my suspicion. The peace during this period was merely the calm before the storm. The Demonic Cultivators had never given up; they were simply gathering their strength, waiting for a chance to make a comeback.
"We cannot sit here and wait for death." I gripped the Heart Sword in my hand, and the blade let out a soft hum, as if responding to my determination. "We must take the initiative and disrupt their plans."
"Take the initiative?" Qu Chen frowned slightly. "Lier, you mean..."
"I want to sneak into the lair of the Demonic Cultivators and weaken their forces before they finish gathering." My tone was firm, and my gaze swept across the three people before me. "I need your help."
My decision startled all three of them, but soon, they understood my intent.
"I'm going with you!" Linger said without hesitation.
"I'm going too!" Xuanfeng also stepped forward.
"No," I shook my head. "You must stay behind to guard the valley, protect this place, and closely monitor the movements of the Demonic Cultivators, keeping in touch with me at all times. This is my responsibility, and this is my choice."
In the end, under my insistence, Linger and Xuanfeng accepted the task of intelligence gathering. As for me, I selected a few disciples proficient in stealth and assassination to form an elite team, preparing to investigate the demonic cave by night.
Night fell, and the valley was shrouded in pitch darkness. I took a deep breath and lowered my voice to the disciples behind me. "Remember, our goal is to weaken the strength of the Demonic Cultivators. Try not to get bogged down in a protracted fight, and act according to circumstances."
"Understood!" the disciples replied in low voices.
Sheltered by the night, we quietly crept toward the direction of the Demonic Cultivator lair. Along the way, I remained vigilant at all times, expanding the sensing range of the Heart Sword to the absolute limit so that no rustling of leaves could escape my perception.
The lair of the Demonic Cultivators was located deep within a gloomy dense forest where the sun never shone year-round, permeated by a nauseating, foul stench. We cautiously approached and found that the defenses of the Demonic Cultivators were even more lax than we had imagined. It seemed they were brimming with confidence in their upcoming plan and never expected us to take the initiative.
"Now is the chance!" I seized an opportunity and led the disciples in quietly infiltrating the lair of the Demonic Cultivators.
The interior of the lair was even gloomier and more terrifying than the outside, filled everywhere with twisted trees and stinking swamps. According to the plan formulated beforehand, we split up with the goal of destroying the magic arrays where the Demonic Cultivators stored Demonic Qi.
Just as we were about to succeed, a powerful aura suddenly descended, and the surrounding space seemed to be imprisoned.
"Who is it?!" With an angry roar, a tall figure walked out from the darkness, his scarlet eyes staring fixedly at us.
Not good, it's the leader of the Demonic Cultivators!
My heart sank as I realized our infiltration plan had been exposed and we had fallen into the trap of the Demonic Cultivators.
"Fall back quickly!" I made a prompt decision and shouted in a low voice. The Heart Sword in my hand blazed with brilliant light, and a fierce sword qi swept horizontally toward the leader of the Demonic Cultivators.
"Want to leave? It's not that easy!" The leader of the Demonic Cultivators sneered, his figure flickering like a ghost as he easily dodged my attack. At the same time, dozens of Demonic Cultivators emerged from the surroundings, surrounding us tightly.
"Kill!" The Demonic Cultivators rushed forward like a tide. I brandished the Heart Sword, beating back the approaching enemies one by one. However, the number of Demonic Cultivators was simply too great, and my consumption of Spiritual Power was immense, causing me to gradually feel somewhat overmatched.
"Sister Lier, look out!" Linger's voice came from afar. I turned my head and saw that she was being besieged by several Demonic Cultivators, in imminent danger.
"Linger!" My heart tightened, and I wanted to go rescue her, but the leader of the Demonic Cultivators blocked my path.
"Your opponent is me!" The leader of the Demonic Cultivators grinned hideously, a ball of black Demonic Qi condensing in his hand as he smashed it fiercely toward me.
I did not dare to be negligent, crossing the Heart Sword to block the attack of the leader of the Demonic Cultivators. However, the formidable power contained within the Demonic Qi still forced me back a few steps.
Right at that moment, I felt a strong fluctuation coming from the Heart Sword, as if it were guiding me toward something. I concentrated my mind, injecting Spiritual Power into the Heart Sword. The Heart Sword instantly shone with boundless light, and a mighty force surged out from the blade, blasting all the surrounding Demonic Cultivators flying.
Seizing the opportunity, with a thought, the Heart Sword turned into a stream of light and beheaded the several Demonic Cultivators who had trapped Linger.
"Let's go!" I pulled Linger along and, taking the remaining disciples, broke out toward the outside of the demonic cave.
The leader of the Demonic Cultivators wanted to pursue, but was blocked by the powerful force released by the Heart Sword, and could only watch helplessly as we escaped.
Upon returning to the valley, I immediately arranged personnel to strengthen defenses while informing Qu Chen and Xuanfeng of the news that the infiltration had failed.
"Damn it, I never expected the Demonic Cultivators to be prepared in advance!" Xuanfeng said angrily.
"Lier, are you alright?" Qu Chen looked at me with concern, his eyes full of worry.
"I'm fine," I shook my head, though my heart was heavy. "Although this infiltration failed, it has also made me more soberly aware that the strength of the Demonic Cultivators far exceeds our imagination."
"What should we do now then?" Linger asked. "Are we just going to sit here and wait for death?"
I was silent for a moment, then raised my head, my gaze firm as I said, "No, we must take the initiative and completely wipe out the Demonic Cultivators!"
I knew clearly in my heart that only by completely wiping out the Demonic Cultivators could the crisis of the Cultivation World be truly resolved. And to achieve this, we had to find a way to keep the Demonic Cultivators in check.
"Lier, you're right. We cannot sit and wait for death." Qu Chen tightly grasped my hand, a resolute light flashing in his eyes. "Do you have a plan?"
I took a deep breath and said slowly, "I need..."
