"You are not that kind of person."
Beneath the dim yellow streetlamp, the figures of Spider-Man and the Lizard intertwined. Their movements were as fast as lightning, and every clash produced a muffled impact. Spider-Man's punches and kicks fell upon the Lizard like a torrential storm, but the Lizard's skin was incomparably tough, and these attacks did not cause him any serious harm.
"Snap out of it, Doctor!"
Spider-Man panted heavily, sweat streaming down his cheeks. His gaze was locked firmly on the Lizard, his eyes betraying a mixture of anxiety and hope. He knew that if he could not awaken Dr. Connors soon, the consequences would be unthinkable.
The Lizard roared in response: "Spider-Man, you cannot stop my advance!"
His voice was deep and menacing, as though it came from a demon of the abyss. His eyes flashed with a green light, and green mist spewed from his mouth, chilling one to the bone.
"I will never let your conspiracy succeed!"
Spider-Man's voice was firm and powerful, even though his body was already beginning to feel fatigued. He knew this might be a battle to the death, but he would not retreat. His conviction sustained him, keeping him going.
The Lizard mocked: "You think your puny strength can defeat me? How naive!"
His eyes flashed with a cruel light, as though he were enjoying the fight. His claws sliced through the air with a sharp whistling sound as he lunged at Spider-Man.
Spider-Man nimbly dodged the Lizard's attack while trapping the Lizard's arms with webbing.
"Stop this, Doctor."
The Lizard possessed immense strength and easily broke free from the restraints. Spider-Man had no choice but to launch another attack, attempting to find the Lizard's weakness.
The Lizard's skin was simply as hard as rock, and not only that, but it also possessed an astonishing self-healing ability. Even Spider-Man's powerful strikes, which could easily knock out an ordinary person, landed on the Lizard like mere tickles, having no effect whatsoever. Even if he sustained minor injuries, he could recover completely in the blink of an eye.
This made it easy to understand why Dr. Connors, after losing his arm, was able to regenerate a complete limb simply by injecting himself with the serum.
Spider-Man cleverly used his surroundings in an attempt to trap the Lizard. He moved nimbly through the narrow alleys, skillfully utilizing utility wires and the shadows of buildings to conceal his movements.
"Do you really think this can trap me?" the Lizard said with contempt.
Each of his steps was as heavy as Mount Tai, making the very ground seem to tremble beneath his feet.
"How will I know if I don't try?" Spider-Man retorted without showing any weakness.
His voice was filled with unyielding fighting spirit. Driven by anger, Spider-Man's strength increased to a certain extent, but at the same time, the rate at which he consumed his stamina accelerated noticeably, and before long he began to pant heavily.
Although Peter had been Spider-Man for a while, he had yet to fully master his newly acquired powers and had relatively little practical combat experience. Therefore, in the battle against the Lizard, he gradually began to feel outmatched.
As his stamina continued to drain, Peter's speed and strength noticeably waned, and he began to lose the upper hand in the fight.
The Lizard seemed to sense his fatigue and seized the opportunity to launch a more ferocious and precise attack.
Just then, the Lizard caught Spider-Man in a momentary lapse of concentration, suddenly reaching out to grab him by the leg, and then forcefully hurled him through the air.
Spider-Man crashed heavily against a dilapidated wall with a dull thud, instantly leaving a deep crater in the masonry as bricks flew in all directions and dust filled the air.
Having gained his superpowers not long ago, Peter suffered such a heavy blow that a wave of intense pain made it difficult for him to concentrate. He struggled to push himself up to his feet, but the Lizard's massive and terrifying silhouette had already blocked out the faint street lighting, leaving only a sweeping shadow of darkness cast over him.
A sharp piercing sound tore through the air once more, and Spider-Man was sent flying again. This time, he completely lost the ability to fight back.
Heavy footsteps drew closer. Spider-Man tried hard to lift his head, wishing to struggle back to his feet, but he lacked the strength.
Enduring the agonizing pain throughout his body, Spider-Man managed to drag himself up. His body trembled slightly, but the light in his eyes grew steadily firmer: "I won't give up! I'm going to protect this city!"
His voice was faint, yet filled with resolve.
The Lizard launched another attack, and Spider-Man barely managed to dodge.
"You can't escape!" roared the Lizard, his voice echoing in the night sky, brimming with arrogance and confidence.
Dodging this way and that, Spider-Man said: "I'll find a way to beat you!"
An unyielding light flickered in his eyes, even though the odds were heavily stacked against him.
The Lizard pressed forward step by step, every stride carrying immense power: "You don't stand a chance!"
His words revealed a ruthless determination, as if he had already foreseen Spider-Man's defeat.
He looked in despair at the slowly approaching Lizard; the terror of death enveloped him. Dr. Connors, transformed into the Lizard, had completely lost his humanity, and Spider-Man did not believe he possessed any mercy.
"You used to be Dr. Connors, a great scientist," Spider-Man panted, trying to appeal to the Lizard's humanity. "Do you still remember your contributions to humanity? Are you really going to let all of that go to waste?"
The Lizard stopped in his tracks, a flash of confusion crossing his eyes, but it was quickly replaced by a wild gleam: "I am no longer that weak human! I am the Lizard, the master of this city!"
Spider-Man shook his head. He knew he could no longer take a passive beating like this; he needed to find a breakthrough. His gaze swept rapidly across his surroundings, searching for anything he could use.
"You aren't the master—you're just a monster controlled by your own desires and fears!" Spider-Man shouted, his voice ringing with power. "You've forgotten that true strength comes from kindness and justice within!"
Touched by Spider-Man's words, the Lizard paused momentarily in his tracks. Seizing the opportunity, Spider-Man quickly fired a strand of webbing, wrapped it around the Lizard's legs, and pulled with all his might to throw him off balance.
Taking advantage of the moment the Lizard fell, Spider-Man leaped onto his back and pinned him to the ground with all his might. He knew this might be his last chance.
"Wake up, Doctor!" Spider-Man whispered into the Lizard's ear, his voice earnest and hopeful. "There is still light inside you—let's find it together!"
The Lizard's body began to tremble, and a struggle flickered in his eyes. But the next moment, the Lizard broke free from his bonds, unleashing a terrifying pressure as he slowly approached Spider-Man.
The terror of death enveloped Spider-Man. Dr. Connors, transformed into the Lizard, had completely lost his humanity, and Spider-Man did not believe he possessed any mercy.
