Tokyo, Japan——
"So, I've been transmigrated?" Following the system's instructions, Mu Sanlu came to a dessert shop and was currently sitting there quietly sipping a cup of coffee.
Well, quiet was only on the surface.
[Yes, host.] A mechanical voice sounded.
"I remember my life was going pretty well." Mu Sanlu put down his coffee cup, his expression still deadpan.
[Yes, host.]
"Then how did I..."
"Excuse me, sorry to bother you!"
Mu Sanlu's words were cut off, and he turned his head at the sound.
It was a young man.
The young man bowed and then stood up, his cheeks somewhat flushed.
"What is it?" Mu Sanlu asked gently.
"I'm terribly sorry!" The young man bowed once more, and this time after standing up, his cheeks became even redder.
"Your clothes are so lovely, would you be willing to take a photo with me?" the young man whispered in explanation.
Mu Sanlu opened his mouth, but before he could say anything, the young man bowed to him yet again.
"It's okay if you say no!"
Mu Sanlu was amused by his antics. He curled his right hand into a fist and placed it against his lips to hide his smile.
Yet his smiling eyes betrayed him completely.
The young man's face grew even redder; he looked almost thoroughly baked.
"Sure."
Just as the young man was about to flee, Mu Sanlu lowered his hand, his voice gentle.
"No need to be so nervous..." He paused for a fraction of a second before continuing, "I don't eat people."
At this, the young man was thoroughly baked through.
Mu Sanlu could practically see white steam rising from the top of his head.
*Oh dear,* Mu Sanlu thought to himself, sensing things were going wrong.
*My original intention was to make a joke to ease his nervousness. Now he seems even more nervous.*
With that, Mu Sanlu kept his mouth shut. He pulled out his smartphone, pointed at it, and gestured for the young man to take out his own phone for the photo.
Mu Sanlu's phone and the money he had just used to buy the coffee both came from the system; the moment he arrived in this world, the system had arranged everything for him.
A reasonable identity, identification documents, a passport, money... Every single detail was covered.
Of course, the language barrier wasn't the system's doing. Mu Sanlu made a habit of learning a country's language before reading its novels. By now, he was well-versed not only in Japanese, but also Korean, Russian, French, and even Arabic.
"Could you please stand with me?" the young man requested.
"Alright." Mu Sanlu nodded and edged a bit closer to the young man.
The closer he got to the young man, the more the young man's hand shook as he held up his phone.
After they finally managed to take the photo, Mu Sanlu had barely been sitting down for long when a few more girls hurried over, asking if they could take pictures of him and take a photo together.
[Host, you seem quite popular. Perhaps I should send you to the entertainment industry world.]
*Actually, it's not that I'm popular,* Mu Sanlu replied to the system in his mind while cooperating with the girls.
*It's just that my attire makes them feel a novelty. My appearance is still quite ordinary.*
[...] The system had no desire to argue with someone completely lacking in self-awareness. It merely used its unchanging mechanical voice to brief Mu Sanlu on his mission.
[You should already understand your main quest, but you don't need to worry too much. Even if your mission fails, I have enough backing to avenge you and send you back to your original world.]
[Of course.] The system paused for a moment before continuing, [If you truly come to like it here, I can also help you restart the world.]
*Fine.* Mu Sanlu couldn't help the corners of his lips curving upward into a smile.
Right when he arrived here, the system had told him that he was supposed to die on that day—a car accident would happen on his usual route home, and he would be pinned beneath a vehicle until he bled to death.
Now that he had already reached this world, whether the system's words were true or false no longer mattered. Rather than cross-examining it about whether it was lying, it was better to put on an obedient front of believing it and being willing to follow its arrangements; doing so might just win him a few conveniences.
[I will transmit your cursed technique information to you shortly, along with all your information and assets in this world.]
*Understood,* Mu Sanlu replied.
[All affairs have been handed over. System 001 is resuming its vacation. Goodbye, host.]
*Wait—*
Here it goes again. Mu Sanlu sighed inwardly. Couldn't it wait for him to finish speaking?
"Thank you so much for your cooperation!"
"No need to thank me." Mu Sanlu smiled and shook his head.
He stood right where he was, watching the girls walk away as they playfully shoved and jostled one another.
Now that the system had departed, there were still three days until the Jujutsu High term began. Mu Sanlu could use these three days to get a feel for this world.
Especially—
Mu Sanlu cast a glance toward the corner of the coffee shop.
Especially this world's "local specialty"—cursed spirits.
