The flow of traffic here was sparse. The shops were limited to a few high-end jewelers, cosmetic boutiques, and clothing stores; street peddlers were virtually non-existent. Almost every place to eat on this street was a high-end restaurant; even those selling steamed buns or wontons operated out of exquisite, luxurious storefronts. This was a street for the wealthy—the residents were either high-ranking officials or prominent, affluent magnates.
The Princess Consort’s mistress lived on this very street.
