Nearly a week had passed since the Daimyo Palace was captured. This nationwide war had been dragging on for a very long time. In the early stages of the conflict, the two major ninja villages fielded over ten thousand shinobi combined. By the time the battle reached the Daimyo Palace, both sides had about four thousand remaining.
Now, however, both forces had suffered catastrophic losses. Excluding the thousand shinobi left behind to guard the village, Kirigakure had fewer than two thousand troops left. Sunagakure was in a similar state—perhaps even worse off than Kirigakure, especially considering how poorly the Third Kazekage had performed earlier.
