Lloyd listened attentively, but the more he heard, the more nervous he became. His assigned task was actually quite simple. As Professor Lawrence had stated, he was responsible for opening portals to arrive and depart, while monitoring for hazardous traps like spatial fault lines, fissures, and turbulence along the way. All the troublesome work—archaeological excavations and combat—was left to the main group; all he had to do was follow along. However, Assistant William’s tone was so grave and earnest, as if they were embarking on a black-ops infiltration mission, that it made Lloyd increasingly anxious. William rambled on for nearly an hour, covering every conceivable detail, stopping just short of regulating Lloyd’s breathing and heartbeat.
