"Isn't it a good thing to be different from others?" Ye Feng's voice came from behind, carrying its usual gentleness. Luna's fingers suddenly tightened, her nails leaving crescent-shaped marks in her palms. She remembered that snowy night at the orphanage, the terrified look in the Director's eyes when he discovered she could use flames to dry soaked quilts; she remembered the scream of the bakery owner's wife at the street corner when she saw her melt the accumulated snow; she remembered countless nights hiding inside a wardrobe, terrified that the power within her would lose control and hurt others. "Of course it's a bad thing," she answered inwardly. "It makes you unadaptable, treated like an outcast... a monster." But she only nodded gently, her bangs falling to obscure her reddened eyes.
