The dense fog was almost palpable, like an invisible giant beast wrapping tightly around them. Every wispy tendril oozed a damp chill that burrowed straight through their pores, raising a dense layer of goosebumps all over their bodies and making their movements sluggish and arduous. Relying only on the general direction of that mysterious aura, they groped forward cautiously like blind men feeling an elephant. Their eyes were wide as copper bells, trying to pierce through the ink-thick mist and catch the slightest trace of hidden danger. Just as their nerves stretched to the breaking point, a faint whispering sound, like a phantom's murmur, echoed softly in their ears. The sound was ethereal and bizarre, seeming to come from the distant horizon while simultaneously lingering right beside them, refusing to leave like a clinging ghost. The three of them instantly turned defensive, stopping out of reflex and pressing their backs against one another to form a tight defensive circle. Their eyes scanned the surroundings vigilantly, missing not the slightest movement. Yet, as far as the eye could see, there was nothing but a boundless expanse of mist. "What is that sound?"
