The meat chunks were still quite firm, far from the soft, tender consistency they would reach once fully cooked. Ling Miao added seasonings and continued to stir-fry, then retrieved some fermented bean curd she had prepared earlier, spooning two scoops of the sauce into the pan. Spices could better remove any gamey odors and enhance the flavor. Along with a splash of rice wine, she added the prepared spices. She had stumbled upon the bay leaves by chance while browsing StarNet. The people of the Interstellar Era had never discovered their benefits; Ling Miao had bought the entire available stock, only to be left regretful that the seller had obtained them by accident and had no more. Although the System Mall offered all kinds of ingredients and seasonings, she dared not rashly introduce items that did not yet exist in the Interstellar Era—tomatoes, for instance. Thinking of this, Ling Miao felt a bit deflated. It was hard to believe that tomatoes hadn’t appeared in the Interstellar Era yet. She wondered if they were just as unpopular as durian and hidden away in some forgotten corner, or if they simply didn't exist at all. However, she leaned toward the former guess—perhaps they just hadn't been discovered yet.
