Carrying a torch entirely on his own, Fang Yi searched all the way to the shores of Taiping Lake before finally discovering a clue.
Extinguishing the torch, he stood fixed on the bank, staring intently at the solitary fishing light out on the middle of the lake. Vaguely, he made out someone jumping from that fishing boat into the water, appearing to struggle amidst the waves for quite some time before managing to fish an infant up from the depths. The baby had cried out most miserably at first, but very quickly, all sound ceased.
He could wait no longer, nor could he hesitate. Fang Yi hurriedly stripped off his top, bared his chest, and with a resounding splash, plunged into the water, swimming desperately toward that distant fishing light.
