The sound of the Village Chief's bronze gong startled Shi Hu, who was in the middle of a fluster in the backyard. Instead of coming out to answer, however, he hid himself away.
"Shi Hu, are you home? Where is everyone?" The Village Chief struck the gong once and shouted toward both the inside and outside of the courtyard. "A wild wolf has come down the mountain into the village! Keep your guard up and make sure nothing happens!"
Seeing that no one was answering him, the Village Chief had no choice but to carry his gong out of Shi Hu's front yard, latch the gate, and continue on to the next house to give notice.
