Twilight hung heavy, the fading afterglow casting a hazy, amber silhouette over the ancient castle. It stood in silence, resembling a dormant prehistoric beast, emanating a mysterious and majestic aura as if silently proclaiming to all the secrets sealed away within the passage of time.
Lin Xiu, Bai Zhi, Su Yu, and Lu Chen approached the castle slowly, their hearts a mix of tension and excitement. As the distance closed, that mystical oppression grew increasingly intense, causing everyone's heartbeats to quicken involuntarily and their breathing to turn shallow.
Lin Xiu had grown up in a shadow-shrouded town where the weak fell prey to the strong and people stopped at nothing to survive. During a bandit raid on the settlement, a young Lin Xiu had watched with his own eyes as his parents were cruelly murdered; in that exact moment, the seed of vengeance was planted deep within his soul. Through a twist of fate, he caught the eye of a reclusive Shadow Assassin, who took him on as an apprentice. Years of grueling training allowed him to master the power of shadow, granting him the agility of a phantom and turning him into an exceptional Shadow Assassin. It was precisely this past that forged his resilient character and acute powers of observation, ensuring he could react instantly in the face of danger.
Bai Zhi was born into an ancient magical lineage that passed down powerful light magic through generations. Yet in her childhood, her family suffered a mysterious catastrophe when a formidable dark force assaulted them, leaving members dead or severely wounded. Bai Zhi narrowly escaped the disaster and was taken in by a kind, elderly mage. Under the old mage's meticulous guidance, Bai Zhi not only inherited her family's light magic but also learned the art of healing. Gentle and kind by nature yet possessing an immensely strong spirit, she vowed to use her magic to protect those around her.
Su Yu hailed from a tribe of hunters where the people received rigorous archery training from a tender age. Blessed with natural talent, she became the tribe's finest hunter while still a child. Outgoing and deeply loyal, she had crossed paths with Lin Xiu and the others during a hunting expedition and joined their adventure from that day onward.
Lu Chen was born into a military family whose generations served the kingdom. He followed his father in learning swordsmanship from boyhood, possessing physical stamina far surpassing ordinary people, coupled with a bold and fearless disposition. He had first distinguished himself during a border war for the kingdom, but that conflict also exposed him to its cruelty. Later, weary of endless warfare, he chose to leave the army and embark on a journey of adventure to pursue the true meaning of life.
When they finally reached the sealed doors, Lin Xiu's gaze was instantly drawn to a strangely shaped rune-carved recess upon them. He took a deep breath, fighting to calm his internal tension and unease, and slowly reached out to press his palm flat against the groove. In an instant, the runes seemed infused with vibrant life, flaring up abruptly as a soft yet dazzling brilliance poured forth, murmuring as though recounting a tale sealed away by time for ages. Directly afterward, the doors gave a slow tremor, parting outward with a muffled, grinding groan. A stale, mysterious draft rushed over them, blending the decay of ages with an unknown mystery, causing everyone's heartbeats to accelerate a fraction more.
Stepping inside the castle, a gloomy and damp atmosphere instantly enveloped them. The torches along the walls flickered with weak, dancing flames; within this dim and profound environment, the four figures were cast into long, flickering shadows that seemed on the verge of being swallowed by the dark at any moment. They lightened their footsteps until they were barely audible, treading with extreme caution while sweeping suspicious gazes across their surroundings, missing not a single corner where danger might lurk.
The tranquility did not endure for long. Without warning, the ground shook violently beneath them like a raging subterranean storm, making it hard to stand upright. Immediately following, from hidden crevices along both walls, countless sharp spears sprang forth like angry vipers, surging toward the group with fierce momentum. The spears tore through the air with a shrill whistle that set hearts pounding in terror.
Lin Xiu reacted with utmost speed, yanking the Shadow Blade from his waist at once. This dagger was given to him by his master on his deathbed and was said to have slain countless Dark Creatures. Under the dim firelight, the blade gleamed with an icy, cold light, razor-sharp as though it could sever anything in existence. Relying on the keen edge of the Shadow Blade, his figure moved like lightning, snapping the approaching spears one by one. Every slash was accompanied by the crisp sound of broken shafts and a scatter of sparks that flashed through the dark like shooting stars vanishing in the night sky. At the same time, without a moment's hesitation, he activated his Shadow Stealth skill, vanishing from his spot in an instant to weave through the spear array as a formless dark shadow. His eyes burned with focus, missing no corner as he single-mindedly hunted for the source of the mechanism to halt this perilous assault. Darting rapidly through the gloom, he relied on his acute perception to dodge the spear thrusts with precision while continuously probing for clues to the traps.
Bai Zhi took swift action as well, gripping her staff tightly—an heirloom carrying her family's magical might. As she chanted under her breath, a soft halo immediately bloomed around her: her Healing Aura. This aura enveloped her teammates like the warm sun of spring, ensuring that while dodging the spear attacks, no one would fall into crisis due to accidental injuries. While maintaining the aura, she keenly observed her surroundings. Soon, she spotted faint, hidden patterns on the walls; these markings seemed to follow a specific rhythm, linked inextricably to disarming the traps. Ducking and weaving around the spear strikes, she drew close to the wall to study the carvings closely, whispering under her breath as she tried to decipher the key to breaking the mechanism from these cryptic symbols. Her gaze was focused and resolute, striving to find a way out of the predicament amidst the peril.
Su Yu and Lu Chen stood back to back, jointly fending off the spear attacks converging from all directions. The Armor of Protection worn by Lu Chen was a treasured family heirloom boasting formidable defensive power. Whenever a spear struck the armor, it rebounded instantly, the powerful recoil fracturing the surrounding ground into pits of varying depths. Meanwhile, Su Yu made full use of her precise archery. With focused and steadfast eyes, she nocked and loosed arrows that whistled through the air like falling meteors, striking the key nodes that triggered the mechanism in an attempt to halt the frenzied barrage by destroying those points. Every shot she fired carried immense force, hitting her targets with pinpoint accuracy and buying precious time for her companions.
Amidst this intense dance of evasion and counterattack, disaster struck unexpectedly. While dodging a spear, Su Yu's foot slipped and she lost her balance, tumbling to the ground. At that exact instant, a spear lunged toward her with a sharp, piercing whine. Catching sight of this, Lu Chen's eyes flashed with fierce resolve; without a second thought, he hurled himself forward, shielding Su Yu tightly with his own body. The spear struck hard against his armor with a harsh clang, sending sparks flying in all directions. "Are you alright?" Lu Chen asked anxiously, his voice laced with urgency and concern. Su Yu's eyes brimmed with emotion, her eye rims turning slightly red as she gave a gentle shake of her head and replied, "I'm fine, thank you." In this very moment, their bond deepened and elevated amidst the danger.
After a tense search, Lin Xiu finally located the core of the mechanism. Wielding the Shadow Blade, he gathered his strength and lashed out fiercely, the razor-sharp edge slicing through the chains connected to the mechanism. As the links snapped, the spears on either side of the walls ceased their volleys, finally bringing a temporary halt to this heart-stopping crisis. The four of them rested briefly to adjust their state before pressing onward. Supporting one another, they advanced toward the unknown ahead, their hearts filled with anticipation and courage for the future.
Following the corridor, they arrived in an expansive hall. The chamber was exceptionally spacious, its surrounding walls carved entirely with mystical runes that seemed to recount ancient tales. In the absolute center of the hall stood a statue radiating an eerie glow. Fashioned in a bizarre shape resembling a mysterious prehistoric beast, it emanated an unnerving chill from every inch. Just as they cautiously drew near, the statue moved without the slightest warning; the previously static stone began to twist and warp, transforming in the blink of an eye into a massive stone monster. The creature's emergence plunged the entire hall into an even more tense atmosphere, and the group instantly braced for combat.
The stone monster possessed a colossal frame towering two stories high. Wielding massive arms as thick as tree trunks, every single blow carried the weight of a mountain, causing the ground itself to tremble violently. Its roaring echoed through the hall, making one's hair stand on end. Relying on his upgraded agility stats and the Shadow Stealth skill, Lin Xiu darted rapidly around the stone monster like a nimble cheetah. His eyes remained locked on every movement of the beast, seeking out its weak spot to deliver a fatal blow. Slipping through the gaps in the monster's assaults, he used his speed and skills to continually harass and strike the foe.
Bai Zhi stood firmly in the rear, her hands moving swiftly across her staff as she unleashed a barrage of powerful magical attacks. Chanting softly, she sent dazzling beams of magic erupting from the tip of her staff like brilliant shooting stars hurtling toward the stone monster. At the same time, she dared not relax her vigilance for a single second, pouring her all into maintaining the Healing Aura to sustain her comrades and ensure everyone fought at peak efficiency. The glow of her magic flickered in the darkness, providing formidable support to her allies.
Su Yu nocked and loosed her Armor-Piercing Arrow, the projectile carrying tremendous kinetic energy as it carved deep gouges into the stone monster's hardened hide. Yet the creature's defenses exceeded imagination, rendering these attacks remarkably ineffective. Seeing this, Lu Chen let out a booming shout and charged forward. Gripping his greatsword in both hands with the blade gleaming frostily, he hacked hard at the monster's leg joints, attempting to throw the beast off balance by crippling its mobility. Every strike he landed was charged with power; though the monster's defense was immense, he refused to yield, continually probing for its flaws.
The battle escalated to a white-hot fervor. The stone monster's onslaught grew increasingly ferocious, each strike sending shockwaves rippling through the surrounding air. Gradually, the group fell into a predicament, each sustaining varying degrees of injury. At this critical juncture, drawing upon his sharp observation and rich combat experience, Lin Xiu finally identified the stone monster's eyes as its fatal weak point. He immediately communicated this discovery to his teammates.
Hearing this, Su Yu concentrated her firepower at once, funneling every ounce of her strength into an arrow aimed directly at the monster's eyes with maximum force. Seizing the opening, Lu Chen intensified his assault, his greatsword slashing like lightning toward the creature's leg joints. Timing his move to perfection, Lin Xiu took a deep breath and unleashed his newly acquired skill, Shadow Burst. In an instant, centered upon him, a surge of potent shadow energy expanded rapidly outward like a black mushroom cloud, crashing into the stone monster. The destructive power contained within the shadow energy dealt a devastating blow to the foe.
Under their combined assault, the stone monster finally collapsed, emitting a muffled roar as it crashed heavily to the floor. As the beast fell, a tremendous shockwave echoed throughout the entire hall, sending clouds of dust billowing into the air.

The leveled-up Lin Xiu and Bai Zhi acquired even stronger abilities. Lin Xiu learned Shadow Vortex; when activated, this skill generated a powerful vortex of shadows around his target. Swirling with dark forces, the vortex continuously inflicted damage upon enemies, trapping them within its pull with no escape. Meanwhile, Bai Zhi mastered Divine Verdict, allowing her to summon a mighty beam of sacred light. This light contained pure and formidable energy capable of dealing massive damage to evil creatures, purging darkness and wickedness wherever its radiance reached.
Carrying the joy of victory and a wave of fatigue, the four took a brief respite before continuing their exploration deeper into the castle. Determination and curiosity filled their gazes; though they knew not what secrets and perils still awaited them in the depths of this fortress, they felt no fear. Striding forward resolutely, they prepared to face new challenges...
