The four of them walked steadily toward the heart of the castle, their hearts a mixture of anxiety and excitement. The further in they went, the heavier the air became. A mysterious aura diffused like a rising tide, growing so dense it was almost suffocating. Ancient runes flickered on the walls like ghost fires swaying in the dark night, sometimes shining and sometimes dimming, as if quietly whispering ancient incantations sealed away by time. Every flash seemed to both entice them to press deeper and warn them of the unknown perils lurking ahead.
Their footsteps echoed in the hollow castle, dull and monotonous, as though they were engaged in a silent dialogue with the ancient architecture. As they walked, a narrow, cramped passageway appeared ahead, wide enough for only two people to walk side by side. Embedded in the walls on both sides of the corridor were glowing gems, their lights intersecting and colliding to cast dreamlike, bizarre patterns of light and shadow that constantly shifted shapes on the floor and walls. At times they danced like agile elves, and at other times they bared their claws like ferocious beasts, seemingly performing a silent, mystical drama.
The very moment they stepped into the corridor, some mysterious mechanism of the world seemed to have been triggered. Suddenly, a strange, ethereal light swept across the ground as massive magic circles slowly emerged, radiating a cold and eerie aura. Black mist boiled within the circles like a pot of simmering broth, and immediately afterward, a swarm of ghosts condensed from shadows poured out one after another. These ghosts were ethereal and illusory, resembling smoke and mist, and they let out blood-curdling, shrill shrieks—sounds that resembled desperate howls from the abyss of hell, piercing straight into everyone's eardrums. Baring their claws, they lunged toward the group, sending a bone-chilling wave of cold air washing over them that left their spines tingling.
At the sight of this, Lin Xiu's gaze instantly turned as sharp as an eagle's, and without a moment's hesitation, he decided to cast his newly learned skill: Shadow Stealth. Taking a deep breath to calm his inner tension, his hands danced rapidly like phantoms, his ten fingers nimbly weaving complex seals while he chanted under his breath. The low incantation sounded like a mystical summons from the dark abyss, carrying a bone-chilling power. In an instant, the ground trembled violently as rows of black iron chains burst forth from the earth. Accompanied by a sharp sound of tearing air, they whipped about like a swarm of frantic pythons, rapidly intertwining and wrapping around each other until, in the blink of an eye, they formed a massive and sturdy cage. The chains flickered with an eerie black light, resembling the eyes of demons, trapping the majority of the ghosts within. Trapped inside, the ghosts struggled frantically, their distorted bodies slamming violently against the iron chains and producing a harsh grinding sound, yet they remained utterly unable to break free from this confinement forged of shadow power. Seizing the opportunity, Lin Xiu pushed both hands abruptly forward and roared, "Shadow Vortex!" Centered on the cage, a powerful shadow vortex formed instantly, churning with boundless dark power inside as if it were a greedy black hole, frantically devouring the ghosts trapped within. The ghosts wailed in agony within the vortex, their forms gradually turning blurry until they were completely swallowed by the darkness, leaving behind only dead silence.
Bai Zhi stood at the rear of the formation, gripping her staff tightly. The crystal at the top of the staff flashed with a dazzling brilliance, resembling a brilliant star. Channeling Divine Verdict to its fullest, she chanted a sacred incantation, her voice crisp and resolute like celestial music echoing above the battlefield. Streams of brilliant sacred light shot forth from the tip of the staff like shooting stars streaking across the night sky, carrying the power to purify all evil as they struck the stray ghosts. Bathed in the sacred light, these ghosts vanished instantly like snow meeting a blazing sun, leaving behind only wisps of thin smoke as if they had never existed. Throughout the spellcasting, Bai Zhi's gaze remained fixed on Lin Xiu. Watching his fearless and heroic posture in battle, she silently cheered him on in her heart. She knew full well that every adventure Lin Xiu undertook could yield unexpected breakthroughs, and she would support him to the utmost from the rear, becoming his most steadfast backing.
Su Yu and Lu Chen were not to be outdone and quickly plunged into battle. Su Yu nocked an arrow and drew her bow, her gaze focused and resolute like cold stars twinkling in the night sky. The arrow on the string was poised for release, ready to transform into a deadly shooting star at any moment. Every Armor-Piercing Arrow carried a whistling wind, acting like a precision projectile as it struck the core vitals of the ghosts. Her archery was exquisite and peerless, and every shot hit its target with infallible accuracy, inflicting massive damage on the ghosts and leaving them struggling in agony. Lu Chen, meanwhile, swung his greatsword with both hands, the blade flashing with a cold glint like a bolt of lightning cleaving the night sky. His movements were powerful and forceful, every swing imbued with overwhelming might that seemed capable of severing all things in the world, beating back the approaching ghosts one by one and kicking up plumes of black mist. Amidst the fierce combat, the coordination between Su Yu and Lu Chen grew increasingly seamless. They needed no excessive verbal communication; a single glance or a subtle movement allowed them to understand each other completely, silently conveying trust and resolve as though they were battle-hardened comrades of many years.
As the final ghost dissipated within the sacred light, the passageway ahead suddenly opened up. A massive stone door appeared before them, towering high into the air like a majestic mountain peak and exerting a strong sense of oppression. The stone door was carved with complex and exquisite patterns that resembled an ancient historical text, recording distant stories while seemingly hinting at some momentous secret waiting for those destined to uncover it. Approaching the stone door with a mix of curiosity and caution, Lin Xiu fixed his gaze firmly on the carvings. Relying on the keen observation he had accumulated over years of adventuring, he discovered that these patterns bore an intricate connection to the runes they had seen earlier in the castle. Gently touching the carvings with his fingers, he silently pondered the patterns' underlying rules, as though engaging in a cross-time dialogue with ancient wisdom. After careful study and trial, he finally found the correct sequence. The moment he pressed the final pattern, the stone door shuddered gently. Accompanied by a dull, rumbling roar, it slowly opened like a slumbering giant beast waking from a millennium of sleep, kicking up a cloud of dust.
Behind the door lay a vast and empty secret chamber. Glowing gems were embedded in the walls, casting a soft radiance that illuminated the entire room as brightly as day. In the center of the chamber stood a treasure chest radiating a dazzling glow. The surface of the chest was carved with mystical symbols that flickered with a faint light, as if whispering of its extraordinary nature or guarding some unknown secret. Just as they eagerly prepared to approach the chest, the ground suddenly shook violently. Cracks spread rapidly like a spiderweb, as though the earth were being torn apart by an invisible giant hand. Immediately afterward, a massive tentacle emerged from a fissure. Its surface was covered in a slimy liquid and emitted a nauseating stench, resembling the foul odor of a rotting corpse. Like a thick python, it tightly coiled around the treasure chest, seemingly proclaiming its ownership of the treasure. Subsequently, more tentacles emerged from fissures in all directions, thrashing through the air like frenzied whips and launching a ferocious attack on the group amidst a foul gust of wind.
Lin Xiu instantly activated Shadow Stealth, his figure vanishing from the spot in a flash and transforming into an intangible dark shadow that seemed to merge with the darkness. Relying on his agile footwork, he ghosted swiftly to the rear of the tentacles to search for their weak points. In the dark, his eyes were as sharp and piercing as cold stars in the night sky, missing not a single detail. At the same time, he unleashed the enhanced skill of Shadow Blade: Shadow Cleave. The Shadow Blade in his hand gleamed with a dark light, resembling the scythe of a grim reaper in the dead of night. Every strike carried formidable power, leaving a deep wound on the tentacle from which black liquid oozed, exuding a pungent odor as though the very blood of darkness were flowing.
Bai Zhi swiftly cast Healing Aura, and a soft halo of light washed over her body, warm as the spring sun. This halo enveloped her teammates, continuously restoring their stamina and allowing them to maintain peak condition amidst the fierce combat, as though a steady stream of vitality had been injected into them. At the same time, she waved her staff, unleashing various powerful magic attacks against the tentacles. Beams of magical light shot forth from the tip of her staff, striking the tentacles with dazzling flashes and violent explosions that resembled the collision of stars, illuminating the entire chamber.
Su Yu and Lu Chen concentrated their firepower on the roots of the tentacles. The arrows Su Yu loosed carried immense impact, striking the tentacle roots continuously. Each arrow seemed imbued with her determination and strength, leaving deep gouges in the tentacles. Lu Chen swung his greatsword, hacking at the root repeatedly with devastating force as if attempting to cleave the earth itself, sending splashes of black liquid flying. Their attacks acted like sharp blades, steadily wearing down the strength of the tentacles and causing their movements to grow increasingly sluggish.
Under their combined onslaught, the tentacles' attacks gradually weakened. Their movements grew sluggish and their flailing slower, making them resemble giant beasts drained of their strength. Seizing the moment, Lin Xiu took a deep breath and activated Shadow Burst. A powerful surge of shadow energy instantly rose around his body, swelling like a black mushroom cloud and spreading rapidly with a destructive momentum. The formidable shadow energy impacted the tentacles, rendering their movements even more sluggish as cracks spread across their surfaces like fragile, breaking porcelain. Seizing the opening, Su Yu nocked an arrow containing her full strength. Drawing the bowstring to its limit with a steady gaze, she silently prayed that the arrow would strike true. With a crisp twang, the arrow cut through the air like a bolt of lightning, accurately piercing the core of the tentacle. With a deafening crash, the tentacle snapped apart, sending black liquid splashing in all directions like dark blood sprayed across the earth. The treasure chest dropped down as a result, emitting a dull thud.
The four of them cautiously approached the treasure chest, their hearts a mix of anticipation and lingering tension, as if they were about to unveil a monumental secret tied to their very destiny. The moment Lin Xiu reached out and slowly opened the chest, a dazzling burst of light flashed, nearly blinding them all as though the light of the sun had gathered inside the chest. When the light subsided, a book exuding a mystical aura and a ring lay inside the chest. Lin Xiu picked up the ring, which was engraved with a mysterious symbol that seemed to hold boundless power, acting like a key to unlock some hidden world. The moment he slipped the ring onto his finger, a powerful surge of energy poured into his body. He felt himself grow stronger, his attributes such as strength and agility receiving a further boost, as though he had been reborn.
Though they knew not what secrets were hidden within this mystical book and ring, they understood that this was perhaps the most crucial harvest of their adventure. Buoyed by these spoils, their gazes filled with unwavering resolve and courage as they pressed deeper into the castle, ready to face new challenges. They knew deep down that within this castle fraught with mystery and danger, countless more unknowns awaited their exploration, and relying on their mutual trust and formidable strength, they would face all trials together and write their own legend...
