The dark, hollow eye sockets of the statues stared up at the ceiling, looking unimaginably eerie.
The Shadow Wall Layers on both sides had been charred pitch black. The murals, which the Shieki Eight Families spent a fortune each year to maintain in pristine condition, were now mottled and blurred, as if they had weathered thousands of years of erosion. The history inscribed within those images had vanished along with the battle that had just swept across the entire floor.
As they ran, black "pillars" could be seen standing before the shadow walls on either side of the Shinto, burning fiercely.
