The Red Well was wrapped in dense, interwoven layers of white silk. The strategic well, originally built for emergency quarters, had walls forged entirely of steel, but now the metal walls had been corroded by the white silk into finger-sized holes, making it look from a distance like a massive, hollow sponge. The bottom of the Red Well was a turbid mess, with white mist lingering at the rim. This was mercury vapor of extremely high density, carrying lethal toxicity to both pure-blood Dragons and Hybrids. If someone were to stand above the Red Well without a hazard suit and a gas mask and take even a single breath, their respiratory tract would likely ulcerate and they would collapse on the spot. A thick layer of white foam blanketed the surface of the water. The well was filled with a fishy, rotting stench and a dense, bloody atmosphere. The temperature in the water remained extremely high, and from time to time, heatwaves pushed aside the mist hanging over the surface, revealing the terrifying sight at the bottom.
