The Death Eaters rapidly seized control of the government, aided by the fact that Dumbledore had been ousted early on. Severus Snape became the Headmaster of Hogwarts, though he still failed to secure his heart's desire—the Defense Against the Dark Arts post. Frenzied Death Eaters swarmed the school, yet the students soon discovered that Hogwarts coursework had merely grown far more rigorous, with the addition of instruction in the Unforgivable Curses and etiquette classes.
