The only difference was that while policy essays required arguments regarding state affairs, Jingyi required candidates to interpret and elaborate on the philosophical principles found within the Confucian classics.

The thickness of the exam booklet was the same as yesterday's; apart from the first page, which was meant for writing the fu and ci, the rest was dedicated to the Jingyi questions. Following the proper format, Han Zhi first copied his "Recall of a Beautiful Woman" from the draft paper onto the exam booklet, then began grinding his ink.
