Su Zhen rode in the Bao family's carriage, following them to the front of a temple. Before she even had time to check the name inscribed on the temple gates, Bao Wan and Bao Fu each grabbed one of her hands and pulled her inside.
The temple was bustling with people. Pulled along through the crowd, she soon found herself standing before the Great Buddha Hall. Moments later, several sticks of sandalwood incense were pressed into her palms, and the Bao sisters led her in bowing before the Buddha statues inside the hall.
Once the bows were finished, Bao Wan took Su Zhen by the hand, bypassed the large bronze incense burner in the courtyard, and brought her straight back into the hall. A monk stepped forward and bowed slightly to the three young women.
