Wang Qian and Su Zhen were chatting when a sudden knock came at the door. Su Zhen asked:

Wang Qian perked up at that, and seeing her reaction, Su Zhen rose to open the door for Shěn Kuò. Standing outside, Shěn Kuò clearly had not expected it to be Su Zhen.
"Lady Su."
Su Zhen glanced back at Wang Qian, who was peeking curiously toward the doorway, then led Shěn Kuò outside and asked, "How did it go? What did Lord Shen and my husband discuss?"
Shěn Kuò looked back into the room as well, then lowered his voice. "I intend to ask for her hand in marriage before I leave."
