The cold wind, like a sand-laden knife, swept across the dilapidated battlements on the western section of Canglang City, letting out a ghost-like wail. Heavy, lead-grey clouds pressed low against the city wall, swallowing the last sliver of daylight. An impenetrable darkness blanketed this forgotten stretch of wall, save for a few wind-proof lanterns struggling against the gale, casting flickering, dim, bean-sized glows that barely outlined the ferocious cracks and peeling rammed earth of the structure.
