Chapter 285

2,985 words15 minutes read

The early morning of Canglang City was blanketed by a sudden and heavy snowfall. Thick, goose-feather snowflakes fell in a dense sheet, wrapping the world in a vast, pristine white and subduing the bustling noise and dust typical of a border town. Yet beneath this purity surged an unusual tension and murderous aura. The bluestone square in front of the Garrison Commander Manor had been cleared of snow in advance, revealing the cold, damp ground. Two rows of elite Northern Frontier soldiers clad in heavy pitch-black armor and holding long halberds stood like iron-cast statues, stretching all the way from the manor gates to the end of the long street. Their faces were stern, their gazes as sharp as eagles, remaining utterly motionless as the wind and snow beat against their cold armor. A biting, murderous intent tempered through blood and fire silently permeated the air, forcing the falling snowflakes to swirl around them.
